Everyone has different views against different issues. Maybe someone chooses to agree, maybe someone chooses to disagree. However, I choose to refute the statement that in most society, competition generally has more of a negative than a positive effect.
As we known, when you want to enter a famous university, you must have a fierce competition with other students who have also the same dream as you. I think everyone who are studying in universities or graduated from them should have the same experience that they had tried their best to prepare the examination of the college entrance, since everyone knows there are only so few famous universities that not all of them have the opportunity to study in them. In other words, only the students who have higher grade could have a chance to enter those famous universities, in China this rate is about 1:2000. So the only way, also the best way of entering them is that all of the students should have a fierce competition.
In another side, many companies who want get more profits from their products in the markets have competed with each other all the times. For example, almost everyone knows that Intel and AMD, the two of the most powerful CPU manufacturers in the world, are the opponents and compete with each other fiercely in the PC markets. In the latest four years of last century, Intel had dominated the most part of the PC market and also got more than seventy percent profits from the sales of CPU. However, in these recent years, AMD has become more and more powerful; especially after the release of 64-bit CPU, AMD has taken the first place in that market at first time. In other words, because of those two powerful CPU manufacturers' competition, we could buy much cheaper and powerful CPU in the market now.
In addition, all of the countries in the world have a fierce competition with each other. However, competitions in economy have always been very popular in all the countries. Almost every country hopes that their goods or products have more advantage in the world market, such as lower price, better quality, better service and so on. For example, Dell, one of the most computer manufacturers in the USA, has been in China for about five years. When they first appeared in China, most of Chinese people could not know where they came from, so their sales were very low. But now after the competition with the computer manufactures in China for about five years, Dell computers have been the second largest sales in China, only lower than Lenovle.
However, we should also not the negative impacts that competition has brought to us. As we known, if the competition is out of the control, it must bring disasters to people. For example, economic crisis which was caused by the competition which was out of the control or broke the law of the economy had ever taken very serious disasters to all the people in the world. Hundreds of people had died from this crisis.
However, although competition could bright us lots of trouble, we should still try our best to compete with others in order to make our dreams come true, since competition is the only way of making our dreams come true.
