Job Description
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a 3-year PhD position at NanoSYD Center in the Mads Clausen Institute (MCI) in Sønderborg. The PhD project is centered on diamond-based nanoelectronics. The position fully funded by scholarship is available as of Jul 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 3-year period.
Affiliated to the research area of “Nanostructured Materials in the Quantum Regime”, the aim
of this position is to build the foundation for diamond-based nanoelectronics. As a PhD student, you will be carrying out research on quantum transport in nanostructured diamond thin films. The techniques in focus are design and fabrication of diamond-based nanostructures/devices as well as ultralow-noise electrical transport measurements
under extreme conditions (at low temperatures and in high magnetic fields), alongside a
range of standard thin film characterization techniques. You will be encouraged to develop your own ideas. You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in high-impact scientific journals. In addition, you will be involved in the daily co-supervision of Master and Bachelor students and assist in teaching activities.
Job Requirements
Candidates who have a Master degree (equivalent to a Danish master's degree) in a field
relevant to the mentioned PhD project, e.g. condensed matter physics, microelectronics,
semiconductor physics, nanophotonics and so on, may seek the scholarship. Preferred
candidates are experienced in electron beam lithography, photolithography, focused ion
beam etching and/or LabView programming. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work,
the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills. A very good capability of
communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing is required.
