issue 1、"We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict our own; disagreement can cause stress and inhibit learning."
提纲:disagree
1 Admittedly, people who share our views can give us more confidence and enhancement of communication.
2 Simply put, without people who contradict our views, we are in danger that our minds and thoughts will become narrower and narrower.
3 Contradicting views provide us with alternative perspectives to see problems, which is useful in a multicultural world.
4 Only should we rational analyze both sharing views and contradicting views, can we learn much more from other people.
Many people think that we can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict to our own. In my opinion, however, it is hard to say so. When we retrospect the way that our knowledge and thoughts have come into being, we will find that, besides learning from teachers in schools, we are always imitating and learning from our parents, friends and other people either share or contradict our views.
Admittedly, it is always easy and happy for us to learn much more from people whose views we share than those views contradict ours. People who share our views can give us more confidence and enhancement of communication. When we share views with someone, we are always satisfied and encouraged. Thus, we are willing to discuss with others and ready to listen to others. When we find our views have some difference compared with others, we are likely to think over it and to selectively accept the new ideas which can improve or compensate the flaw of our own. Such kind of comparison help us to collect our thoughts and thus to think and learn more maturely. Moreover, sharing views help us to find spiritual friends who can share the joy from success and the sadness from frustration.
Simply put, without people who contradict our views, we are in danger that our minds and thoughts will become narrower and narrower. If we only accept the ideas from people who share our views, we will lose a lot of chance of self-development. People are always think themselves are the most correct while others are more or less wrong if the views are not unanimous. By think so, we will tend to come into being the blindfold self-confidence, which hampers our progress in study rather than improves us.
Like sharing views, contradicting views also help us to see the flaw of our own point of views, enabling us to improve our understanding and to find the friends who can share the pleasure and harvest from argumentation. People who have contradicting views sometimes can notice the problems which people have sharing views and ourselves have been ignored and give us the new ideas, which maybe the key points of our views.
However, on the contrary, Only may contradicting views provide us with alternative perspectives to see problems, which is useful in a multicultural world. Since thought of individual is always limited, people can not think over all aspects of problems. To think about problems with different perspectives can compensate the limitation. By communicating with people who contradict us, we may open new ways to our mind and thus become more open-minded and considerate.
In sum, without sharing views, we will probably lose confidence and feel discouraged; without contradicting views, we will have blindfold confidence and narrower mind. Thus, only should we rational analyze both sharing views and contradicting views, can we learn much more from other people. |
