A Ph. D. graduate assistant position with full financial support is available as early as Spring 2020 in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VT). The admitted student is expected to work with Dr. Xinghua Gao in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT)/Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) and data analytics/machine learning for construction and facilities management.
About the Advisor
Dr. Xinghua Gao joined the MLSoC at VT as an assistant professor in August 2019. His general research interests lie in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and IoT-enabled smart built environments that encompass automated data collection, analysis, and visualization for more efficient and effective construction and facilities management. Prior to joining VT, Dr. Gao earned his Ph.D. Degree in the School of Building Construction at Georgia Institute of Technology.
Application Instruction
Applicants with a B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering/Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Other majors can also be considered if the applicant has a strong interest or motivation in IoT/ CPS and data analytics/machine learning. The preferred starting time would be Spring 2020 or Fall 2020.
