Let me hip u the date and old story, upstairs. & : )
It's on the fourth Thursday of November.
That's really a big fastival in the north American countries.
Corn bread, roast turkey , and pumpkin pies are quite essential on every family table.
Before their feast, usually , the Americans will pray to the God ( as most christian do ) and speak out their thanks to the people who helped them.
Originally, this festival was celebrated in rememberance of the help of the Native Indians, 'cause in the ancient year of 1620, because of the severe religious persecution in England, 102 puritians were forced to take on the ship of MAYFLOWER and sailed to the virgin America in seeking of new life and freedom. Actually, they were so-called "Pilgram Fathers" . Anyway, it was in the cold late November when they reached the new land. Neally half of them were died of cold, hunger and environment inadaption. Life was extremely difficult at that time, and it was the native Indian people who helped them. They were offered living nessisities and were even taught how to cultivate crops, hunt animals, and raise turkeys. Fortunately, in the next November, the newcommers had a good harvast! In order to show their thanks to the helpful friends, they held a big banquet and invited the friendly Indians to come and celebrate together. During the feast, they were singing, dancing and having delicious coin bread, roast turkey, and pumkin pies. And thereafter, harvast after harvast, year after year, it became a traditonal festival. |
