According to a very famous Canadian Educationist Bloom, the levels of learning can be devided into 5 different levels which are clearly placed in the following triangle-shaped graph:
SYTHESIS
A-N-A-L-Y-S-I-S
A-P-P-L-I-C-A-T-I-O-N
C-O-M-P-R-E-H-E-N-S-I-O-N
K----N---O---W---L---E---D---G----E
The levels are place from the bottom easy to the top difficult. At the top of the triangle, first we have SYTHESIS, which means creative thinking, and that is the professional doctors finding cue for cancer or some other reasearchers usually do. Below it, on the second floor, there is ANALYSIS, means problem solving, and that's our socialolgists discussing facts and studing them or perhaps the senior students writing an essay to explain some evolution or something else often use. Besides ANYLASIS, on the next floor, NO.3 we have APPLICATION, means carrying principles or experiences we've already got into real practice. Sometimes, it is not often going as big as writing a essay or doing a reserach work, but much more likely to what we usually have in our Science homework---- doing Maths or Physics problems using the principles we learnt from the class. The closest upper neighbour of APPLICATION is COMPREHENSION, namely, understanding. In examinations, normally for Arts students , we usually have a kind of test form called " Explain the terms", which is to check how much u have understood of certain knowledge points. The last but the most important, KNOWLEDGE, say, the dates or names or events or items or the other facts. No need to explain more, that's the fondition of the learning triangle, and as well as the check points we Chinese-styled examinations always emphasised on. Anyway, all the five parts are closely conbined, and each of the lower floor is the pre-condition of the upper one. Got it? |
