Civilization is composed of both material and spiritual civilization, which play different functions in the development of civilization. As we all know, those famous ancient civilizations not only known for their glorious art and cultures but also for the substantive scientific achievements. For example, the astronomy and philosophy of Greece and the calendar and architecture of Egypt have profound influence on the world. Therefore, both artistic creations and scientific achievements reflect the true value of civilization.

On the one hand, the prosperity of art is an essential indication of civilization, because artists express personal feelings combining human thought with backgrounds of the times so that their works reflect the civilized level of their living periods from individual perspective. The fresco and stone implements made in remote antiquity, the painting and sculptural art developing afterwards and the computer painting nowadays are all representatives of civilization of different times. And, whenever we study the history of a civilization, the artistic achievements would be discussed as a fundamental part, with which we can recognize, on certain extend, the true value of a civilization and learn to appreciate the civilization. Thus, it is quite right to say that achievements of art are on behalf of the value of a civilization.

On the other hand, the scientific development is another mark of human civilization. Modern people always judge an ancient civilization by the tool used in that period, which can perfectly reflect the development of the society and the level of the civilization. In addition, scientific advancements directly propel the development of material civilization, the foundation of spiritual civilization. In a society in short of materials, the pressure of surviving will impede people’s exploration of mental world and force them to give up their pursue of mental enjoyment. On the contrary, the more developed the science is, the more prosperous the civilization would be. In Chinese history, the invention of compass contribute a lot to the advancement of navigation, which consequently promotes communication between cultures, while another two inventions, paper making and printing have human history and civilization recorded and transmitted. Every progress in science and technology drives human civilization to take a stride.

In fact, the art and the science do not act exclusively but mutually promote each other's development, which finally lead to thriving civilization. Scientific achievements provide new technology and inspiration to art, while artistic creations offer scientists insightful perspective and introspection. For one thing, scientific fruits combined with art could produce new artistic species, which enrich and broaden human civilization. The invention of camera leads to a new type of art, photography. Also, without cinematograph, we could not enjoy so many wonderful films today. For another, art is the blood and vitality of science. Artistic creations, full of imagination and fascination and reflecting the human emotion and sensibility to personal experience and outer world, spark people’s creativity and enthusiasm to explore and change the world. America own powerful strength in science and technology though, the spaceship of Soviet Union flies into the space first. Why? American experts find that the artistic education of Soviet Union is superior to that of the USA. In this way, ignorance of either development of art or science will lead to incomplete and misshapen civilization.

To sum up, scientists explore universal truth with personal emotions, while artists express person emotions through ascription of universal truth. Their works consist of human civilization. Accordingly, both artistic creations and scientific accomplishments are necessary for us to assess the value of a civilization.

对于文明这类的题目我还没有遇到过，刚看到题目时，我一直在想何谓 the value of civilization. 然后就剩着你的文章看下去了。觉得三个body的主题还是可以的。看到最后想到了以前上历史课时，每个阶段确实是从这几个方面来介绍某个时期的。
但是在b3里science和art是怎么推动civilization的，并没有展开。我觉得可以从Renaissance讲。依稀记得工业革命什么的是和这个有关系的。抱歉，偶的历史真的很差。
然后我看了一下字数，有700+。我觉得会不会太长了？如果是我写的话，我会把重点放在它们之间如何相辅相成，以及共同对文明的推进上。前面可以精简一点。
