"Conformity almost always leads to a deadening of individual creativity and energy."
Any individual living in this just and order world would have to obey certain rules. However, some people think that conformity to rules almost always leads to a deadening of creativity and energy, and those two are very important in our modern world. Dose this claim really the absolute truth? I doubt it. Here are my reasons.
First and foremost, whether conformity can affect an individual's creativity or energy lies in the person's inner nature, which varies dramatically from person to person. Those who perform best as subordinates, they tend to be obedient no matter what position they are in. For example, in an army, a private who is both inert and obedient will be the same when he is in the position of a general. On the contrary, Napoleon will show dominate characteristics even when he is just a lowest level solder. For those who are liable to be affected, the arguer's claim maybe true to some extent. But for them, chances of being creative or energetic is very low. While for the person who has dominate disposition, they will demonstrate their nature no matter what environment they are in.
Second, for those who are creative, energetic or dominate in nature, the rules and regulations can not hinder them from demonstrating their nature. Those people tend to bent or break the rules, norms, or the standards for ordinary people. There are lots of example of this kind. And the world's richest man- Bill Gates is the most convincing instance. Bill grew up through a very competitive environment: a private elementary school, a private high school which is full of elite young talents, and the world's best Harvard University. Bill if famous for his competitive, creative and energetic during all that education pyramid. Ordinary people will think that he will just finish his bachelor's degree and go to a famous company or a graduate school. To many people's surprise, he dropped out of Harvard to form his own company, which dominates the software market now. His software company is also excel in creative products. We can easily see that for people who have the nature to break rules, like Bill, conformity can not harm anything, even to the slightest level.
However, for most ordinary person, a sense of conformity will not do much harm, because those norms, rules, regulations are cumulated through times for plain people to perform well, maybe not extraordinary. Nevertheless, they are the basic for most of the people. It is not difficult to understand that no rules are perfect, thus exception exist for those extraordinary ones. A simple example for this is that nowadays, a good education background is the basic for a successful career. However, not all the top CEOs in china have diplomas from famous universities. Some of them even don't have a bachelor's degree. In a word, norms and regulations are for most people except those extraordinary ones. Thus conform to them will not do much harm to normal people.
In sum, conformity dose not invariably lead to deadening of creativities or energy. People's own nature should be taken into consideration in such situations. To most people, conformity will not do harm, but rather to facilitate their behavior; but for those elite ones, norms seem to be a hamper, however, those extraordinary people will not be affected by them owing to their extraordinary nature.
