Whether a leader is effective or accomplishes little depends on the decision he makes will benefits people or not. While consistently committing to particular principles and objectives may be detrimental to the group if the goal is wrong-headed, on balance, quickly and easily being influenced by consensus is also not wise.

On the one hand, a successful leader's ability does not just limit to the writer's first claim, it is also necessary for a leader to be insightful, democratic, humility, etc. The mission of a leader is to choose what is right for the entity and leading people to pursue it. Though committing continuously is right during leading pursuing objectives, if mistakes has been made at the beginning, the whole project will be absolutely in the opposite direction. Sometimes this result is fatal when concerning the entity as a country. Such cases could be found in the three main fascist countries who started up World War II. Not only have their own country suffered but also people of the entire world. Therefore just considering consistently commitment as the most essential quality is not well-supportive.

On the other hand, only adopting to popular opinions can not be put up with either. The implicit rationale behind this assertion is that it equals the popular opinions to what is right for people. Not all persons can make right choices. Truth always lies in small parts in reality. If the leader decides everything just according to public's favorite, there is no necessity to set a leader in this group. Vote can solve everything. Admittedly, vote has its own reasonable facets. Through vote to adopting popular opinions it betters conducting of the project. Because everyone knows leaders' intention and support it from inside. Moreover, vote motivates interests of persons in the group for people think themselves as a joiner not an employee. However, sometimes right policies need sacrificing parts of individual’s interests or even denying what they truly believe since being born, then favorites is not the best. Take Reform and Opening Up Policy for example, in the past ten years since its birth, voices of questioning and oppugning from the public did not stop. But look at the prosperity of China nowadays, everyone thanks to this policy’s creator—Den Xiaoping.               

In sum, no matter it is a country or a corporation a leader leads, the consensus and self-consistence are both proven to be of significance an effective leader. The only criterion for evaluation is  what benefits more to the entity.
