The speaker asserts that rituals and ceremonies are necessary to define a culture and people consider them as culture identities.consider what as culture identities, "them" is a confused word. If you refer to rituals and ceremonies, then the expression is wrong to my point of view. This sentence can be omitted I agree with the speaker insofar as some special rituals and ceremonies can help definea culture, however, when it comes to the commoncommon should be changed into usual or ordinary ceremonies, one nation's ceremonies one nation's ceremonies?and rituals are not the unique ones that other nations may stimulateyou mean simulate? withfor some reason some reasons. Moreover, culture is complex whichwhich?thus is better ceremonies and rituals are not the only means to define.
Ceremonies and rituals can distinguish one nation from another nation and so can help define a culture.nation should be replaced with cultural groups. The second nation should be omitted, otherwise there is a grammar mistake. The sentence is better when "One can distinguish one cultural group with another through the respecitve unique ceremonies and rituals Since ceremonies and rituals are the important heritages from our ancestors who lived in a particular circumstance and had formed special customerscustoms which are different from others, we hold the certain ceremony passed down from our ancestors to identify us who are from a certain group. We keep the certain ceremonies which is passed down from our ancestors to know who we aree and where we are from Even the original meaning of a certain ceremony does not existexist change to remain or are not preserved in today's modern society; nevertheless, holding such ceremony remains necessary to that nation. For example, in China the most important ceremony is Spring Festival, and during those days Chinese usually eat dumplings and some other delicious food. Specially and most importantly, children must play with firecracker during the festival, even its original meaning that drive evil spirits away has already lost its significant meaninglost its significance. Spring Festival is more important to the Chinese who are in foreign country withfor the reason that not "with" the reason that the festival can remind him of a Chinese people and missing toif you want to express the meaning of think, "miss"is an transitive verb their family and their country. In short, a special ceremony can be defined as a culture identity that remind who they are.
However, some unique ceremonies considered as representation of one nation at one time may be held and popular in other nations. As we are more interested in other nations' culture and history, we know and comprehend more cultures of other nations and of course understand many ceremonies and rituals of those nations. We are so interested in these ceremonies that we stimulate them with some certain reasons such as following fashions. We need look no further than the Saint Valentine's Day that is a common festival in western countries, yet it has been popular and even a fashion in young peoplespeople of the eastern countries. During the February 14th, roses, chocolates and candela dinners are necessary to every inamorato. In addition, Chinese brides no longer wear the cheongsam and a red kerchief in the wedding, in stead, they stimulate west countries to wear white panorobes and some even hold the wedding in the church. Thus, the global communication enables us to stimulate other nation's ceremonies and so meremerely ceremonies and rituals can not define a culture. The example is appropriate, however, grammar mistakes abound, and lack reasoning part. You can focus on the reasons, which you have just mentioned with few words, why some rituals and ceremonies disappeared and are homogenized. First, the advance of technology renders us to get rid of superstitions. Second, the increasing global mobility and thus increment of cultural communication
Additionally, ceremonies and rituals are not the only means to identify a culture. Culture is a complex definition that no simple forms can explain and represent. Ceremonies and rituals are just the extrinsic forms of culture which can not be representative of intrinsic values completely. For instance, the spirit of people that is one important constituent of certain culture and it can not be shown and explained by some single ceremonies and rituals but can be shown by movies or novels. Moreover, the customerscustoms of people in the nation such as clothes, dietary habits, and talking styles are also important to define their cultures
To sum up, ceremonies and rituals are important but not necessary forms to identify one nation's culture. Since inevitable trend of globalization and some ceremonies are popular in many nations, we can not distinguish people from others just regard of one certain ceremony. |
