I strongly agree with this assertion that students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study instead of accepting what they are taught passively.
Admittedly, I concede that too many extreme questions and skepticisms are unnecessary. After all, it is inappropriate for a young child to spend a whole day pondering on the question why one plus one is two and should be omitted regardless of his homework or other tasks. In that case, skepticism are not that obviously helpful for the student who is experiencing the stage of fundamental knowledge learning. In my opinion, you’d better split the last one sentence into two in order to express the hidden meaning. In that case, the benefits he/her gains from the skepticism pales in comparison to otherwise finishing the homework. As many educators pointed out skepticism might be less helpful for the students at the stage of preliminary learning since they have just contacted the new world and have not yet formed the values and world view. In addition, one optimal result of education is to provide an individual the ability of telling the right from wrong. For that matter, aimless skepticism should be avoided. To illustrate, an individual should be educated to stick to the truth and to challenge the fallacy rather than being skeptical for its own sake and oppose whatever other people stand for.
However, in every stage of learning--primary stage, in middle or high school, college or university, and so forth, a student will benefit from skeptical learning. At primary school, a qualified teacher should never blame a student from asking too many "Why" because this is the very method from which a student built up his or her own critical thinking pattern.Asking why does not amount to being skeptical. Skepticism is changing and questioning authority, critical thinking and provide different point of view Otherwise, if the student being considered as not obedient and receive the scold from the teacher or parents, he or she would probably loose the passion of investigating and reluctant to poundponder on a single question independently, which reluctance, might be not so significant in the middle or high school stage, during which stage the most fundamental knowledge are provided, however, after entering college or university, that reluctant reluctancewould block the way of further knowledge grasping and as a result the student, being a passive accepter, would find it hard to discuss a single question with his or her classmate. The sentence is too long and has several grammar mistakes, yet the meaning is clear:D
In addition, most of the talented gifts are being revealed and developed by the way of skepticism. In human'shuman history, there are many such people who show there skepticism to the classical theories and proved their drawbacks and even develop new theories which changed our world. If young Copernicus just recite Aristotle's theory concerning the sun, the earth and other planets, andif Bruno and Galileo just satisfied with Copernicus assumption, then there today's people would probably still hold the conception that the earth is square instead of round and all other stars and planets rotate around it.
Moreover, as an ordinary person, without the great gift to change human's life, skepticism is also badly ? needed. During every day’s life, there exists much stuff such as to tell which product is to be chosen; to justify from the candidates of government official of whom should be chosen; or even, to decide where to live. An individual, no matter being a child, a young student or an adult have to make judgments about those stuff everyday. All of the decision and ruling things are depend on the ability of skeptical thinking and independence they acquired during student stage, or one would probably being mislead by the advertisements and mass media and, as a result, lost his way in the overwhelming information and advices.off the subject! The subject is limited in the field of learning
In sum, although too much extreme questions about a single question might be unnecessary and time-consuming for a student in fundamental learning stage, who is supposed to spent most of his or her time accepting basic and classical knowledge, However, it is vital for an individual to build up the habit of critical thinking in order to contribute to the society and maintain his or her everyday life. Thus, schools should encourage students to bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study and questions or skepticisms should never be considered as too many.
