Do society place enough emphasis on the intellect? The speaker think not so. Through some examples from educational field and experience in technology development during history, I agree with the speaker's opinion.

First of all, the deficiency on educational field is an important expression of lacking reasoning. The education system places too much emphasis on final score of students now. The standard of a good student, which teachers and parents value, is whether students get NO1 or NO2 in their class, rather than care about the progress on reasoning and other cognitive skills. They just focus on the final result. If a student wants to enter famous university in high school, he must have an excellent record, such high score in math, English and other lessons, which makes him more competitive than others. The same situation happen in college, if you prepare for entering Harvard university, you should have a higher GRE score and TOEFL score. The result is that it is necessary to increase the ability in reasoning, and students just remember words by rote. It is undoubted that progress of thinking is more important than final score. However, it is the negative environment of society that ignores the ability of reasoning and cognitive skills.

Additional, It is an important tool to get knowledge. From the development of knowledge during history, reasoning and cognitive is key to probe unknown fields. The progress of accumulating basic principle and knowledge is firstly to observe objective phenomenon, then summarize some common rules from different phenomenon, during which it is reasoning is on effect. Finally, it becomes reality to recognize world and change world for us. There is an example to support this opinion. Newton, a famous physical scientist, saw an apple fell from a tree in an occasional chance, but he did not ignore this common fact that is very common for everyone. Through reasoning again, he gave us the theory of gravity. It is the ability of reasoning that impels our society develops more and more.

From opposite point, it would have colorful and advanced life if human lose reasoning and other cognitive skills. No reasoning, probably human live in original society, even bear famine everyday; no reasoning, we can not produce so many advanced machines, maybe we only travel by ship or by walk, it is just a dream of flying in the sky; no reasoning, it is a luxury to communicate with our friends far away. So reasoning and cognitive skills change our life.
