144 "It is the artist, not the critic, who gives society something of lasting value."

Do artists or critics give society something of lasting value? Although critics are helpful, more often than not, to interpret and evaluate the art, I fundamentally agree with the assertion that the lasting value for society exists in art itself other than in the critique.

Admittedly, I concede that critics help laymen understand the art work well since they are familiar with its background, author and meaning to the author's contemporaries. I also concede that the constructive critique, which is critics’ feedback to certain art works, gives artists more idea to improve works and may even inspire artists to create new genre and style.

However, any persons who have studied arts when and where will agree that the true art is a product of artists’ authentic passion, a manifestation of the artist's unique creative impulses and a creativity of the artists' spirit. Thus, referring to the lasting value, the artists, who create art, play a profound role to give society more thoughts and ideas. Appreciating an art work is like having a talk with artists so that we are conveyed more information from arts. If we prefer to gain critics' talk content with artists other than to participating positively in the communication, the lasting value of the art for society may be ignored or filtrated by critic's narrow and subjective evaluation conforming to the established and out-dated standard. Examples from painting, music and literature support the point.

In the realm of painting, when Monet's "Impression, Sunrise" first displaced in one Salon in Paris, it didn't win any praise but all critique from the critics. They excluded this type of painting since there was no genre had put so much emphasis on the usage of sunlight before impressionism. However, it was Impressionism that has epochal meaning to Western Arts. Monet introduced sunlight outside as an element to describe the nature. What’s more, by his painting, Monet, as an artist, gave the society new concept of beauty and gave birth to many genre afterwards. On the contrary, critics attempted to judge Impressionism according to the former principle and might be surprised ultimately that what they regarded as nonsense became the new leaf in history of art.

In the realm of music, the esteemed critics, who were accustomed to the predictable harmonious and melodious length of Haydn, dismissed Beethoven's music as literally causing their ear to hurt. In fact, Beethoven, as an artist, converted the sorrow and frustration in our life into enthusiasm and infuriation to overcome the obstacle by the symphony. From his music world, the society obtains courage and strength continuously. Therefore, if we follow such critique, we may miss the greatest music and a collision with the heart of a greatest musician.

In the realm of literature, there also existed a significant writer whose works were criticized as barbaric. He was Shakespeare. Voltaire, who was immersed in the spirit to discover a way of reconciling new ideas with old classic faith, condemned Shakespeare's literature because he didn’t conform to the neo-classical principle of unity. Nonetheless, his critique didn't interrupt society to gain the lasting value from Shakespeare’s works. Shakespeare endowed his work the roman and optimism accord with the movie "Shakespeare in Love" as well as the realism and profundity like the prince's word "To be or Not To Be". His thoughts influenced the era of Renaissance and gave persons more lasting value.

In sum up, the essence of art, which are conveyed to the society as lasting value is thoughts of artists not the critique of critics. Without critics, art is still art. Whereas without artists, art is nothing.

Do artists or critics(觉得怪异) give society something of lasting value? Although critics are helpful, more often than not, (奇怪的插入语)to interpret and evaluate the art, I fundamentally agree with the assertion that the lasting value for society exists in art itself other than in the critique.(好像后面也有个地方 other than和rather than用混了?

the lasting value of the art for society may be ignored or filtrated by critic's narrow and subjective evaluation
filtrate这个词 似乎应该是filter out(也不知道相应的是褒义还是贬义)?

Rien de réel ne peut être menacé.
Rien d'irréel n'existe.

To imong,

Do artists or critics give society something of lasting value? Although critics are helpful, more often than not, to interpret and evaluate the art, I [fundamentally删了吧] agree with the assertion that the lasting value for society exists in art itself other than in the critique.

Admittedly, I concede that critics help laymen understand 〔删the 〕〔art work   指书刊上的图片。。〕well since they are familiar with its background, author and meaning to the author's contemporaries. I also concede that the constructive critique, which is critics’ feedback to certain art works〔最好不要一会单数,一会复数,统一〕, gives artists more idea to improve works and may even inspire artists to create new genre and style.〔两词意思一样了就删一个〕

However, any persons who have studied arts when and where 〔是whenever wherever的意思?〕  will agree that the true art is a product of artists’ authentic passion, a manifestation of the artist's unique creative impulses and a creativity of the artists' spirit.   〔这句话是经不起推敲的,虽然花哨〕Thus, referring to the lasting value, the artists ,〔个人认为不用加the,或者如题目中,用单数加the〕 who create art, play a profound role to give society more thoughts and ideas 〔注意和前文的单数统一〕. Appreciating an art work is like having a talk with artists so that we are conveyed more information from arts. If we prefer to gain critics' talk content with artists other than to participating 〔to后面跟verb还是ing〕positively in the communication, the lasting value of the art for society may be ignored or filtrated by critic's narrow and subjective evaluation conforming to the established and out-dated standard.

On the contrary, critics attempted to judge Impressionism according to the former principle and might be surprised ultimately that what they regarded as nonsense became the new leaf in history of art.〔这段写的不错〕

In the realm of music, the esteemed critics, who were accustomed to the predictable harmonious and melodious length of Haydn, dismissed Beethoven's music as literally causing their ear to hurt. In fact, Beethoven, as an artist, converted the sorrow and frustration in our life into enthusiasm and infuriation to overcome the obstacle 〔没有限定语,不知道指什么,也容易和后面短语连起来〕 by the symphony.

Shakespeare endowed his work the roman and optimism accord with 〔做什么成分?〕 the movie "Shakespeare in Love" as well as the realism and profundity like the prince's word "To be or Not To Be". His thoughts influenced the era of Renaissance and gave persons more lasting value.〔这一段的例子堆积的有些多了〕

In sum 〔删up〕查不到这种用法,哪里见到的?, the essence of art, which are conveyed to the society as lasting value is 〔the〕thoughts of artists not the critique of critics. Without critics, art is still art. Whereas without artists, art is nothing. 〔there's no art比较合逻辑吧?〕
