Admittedly, under some circumstances, people always ignore what the latter do to the society, because we might only remember names of whose inventions or ideas have been used or practiced for a long time and think they proffered lots to the mankind materially, mentally or spiritually.  We know the relativity theory, which changed the world's technology, but few have idea of who discovered Einstein. Most of us think the contributions are just from the creators with little bearing on others. Actually, it is not correct.  A good idea or theory sometimes is not easy to understand.  Not all of us would appreciate it as well as those who have subtle insight and strong perspective or mull over questions from every possible angle.  Therefore, those people know what most benefit will bring to us and how to motivate people's potential.  And when we work without directions and aims, we need someone to guide us and correct us to the right way so that we can continue.  Those people will do them by encouraging us, criticizing us, evaluating achievements, organizing human resources and giving us good advice.  That is basically what lead ship requires nowadays.  

Nonetheless, if there is no work of those who develop their own new ideas with talents and skills, there are no wealth, thoughts or anything sophisticated in the world.  Consider, for example, hardware designers manufactured chips for machines and computers.   Geneticist answered the cause of many complicated diseases and heal people.  Physicists, who focus on the new energy resources or materials, are dragging us out of the situations of lacking oil.   The researchers of economy figure out what methods could make more money and avoid crisis.  The facts that countless scientists, researchers and technologist are working on the areas of different sciences or subjects prove that those people make our lives better and more convenient and full of surprise by putting ideas and theories into our lives.

Still, it is nonsensical that one type of them does more than the other.  Those two type of people are connected by the need of fast developing community.  As in software development, a project manager is needed as well as engineers.  While engineers turn their ideas into practice by coding, the manager put pieces of work into a whole one by filtering and organizing them. Imagine that there is only the former type.  So many thoughts or good theories would be rejected by misunderstanding or confusion, which should have been coordinated. Moreover, lots of people, who have both qualities mentioned in the statement, are good at collecting information and analyzing the data. In such case we do not separate them into two groups.

软件工程师中有的是developing some new ideas，有的(大部分)是skillful, 俺自己就是软件工程师的说。
