Does it is true that an effective political leader can not tell the truth all the time, and as the speaker mentioned, complete honesty is an invalid virtue for a politician? It is a popular and paradox topic in contemporary society. I agree with the speaker's assertion to a large extent, because the opposite statement which demand a politician to be purely honest is a somewhat difficult even unrealistic.

In the first place, to be completely honesty is a hard task for everyone in our real life, including the politicians. The society and the environment surrounding us are very complicated, which are full of paradoxes and difficult things to deal with. It is difficult to imagine a common person to be truly honest about what he or she do and what he or she say in such a situation like nowadays. I have the confidence to launch a survey about honest in our surroundings, the result most probably is that seldom people dare to say he or she never tells a lie in his or her life. Politicians confront even more complicated and difficult affairs in their political lives than average people, it is unreasonable and unrealistic to set up so demanding standards for them not to be dishonest.

In the second place, as political leader, in order to enable the security and prosperity of the whole country and its citizens, it is the adequate choice for him or her to withholding truth from the public temporarily. Although dishonesty is not a laudable habit, in some circumstances people have to withhold truth even tell lies without choice, which are worth to be forgiven. Do not tell the dying people his or her real physical situation, encourage them that they will be better soon is lying indeed, which is also understandable. So do the politicians. When being asked about the significant information such as military and national security, it is wise for a political leader chooses to be silent instead of expose. In such situations, it is obvious for everyone that to be complete honesty is a useless even harmful behavior for politicians.

Notwithstanding, although it is necessary for political leaders to be partly and selectively honest and withhold information to the public for some reasonable causes, it is not equal to that political leaders have the rights to be dishonest. (知晓权)
Public have the right to know and participate in the social and national political issues, which is the demand of democracy. As an effective political leader, he or she has vital responsibility to ensure the achievement of democracy and freedom of choice, which demands he or she to be loyal enough to the nation and citizens. If the politicians have the complete power to be unreasonable dishonest and withhold necessary information to the public, it will lead to harmful results such as low efficiency, corruption even dictator, which is conflict with the norm of democracy and is unbearable to any democratic society. To be dishonest for the politician' own sake will be surely punished by the laws even the whole society. One persuasive example is the notorious(水门事件) "Watergate" affairs in which President Nixon withhold the truth for his political sake and eventually end up with resignation. Such instance tell us to set up the supervision system in order to ensure the efficiency and loyalty of the political leaders instead of simple advocating the speaker's assertion, giving them the complete power and opportunity to be harmful to the society.

In sum up, it is essentially the truth that ask politicians to be complete honest is unrealistic for their special position and tasks. But such statement cannot become their excuse to be dishonest for their own sake even harmful to the society. As social members we have the rights and responsibilities to participate in social political issues enable then to be comparatively honest and more efficient in their leading positions.
