Censorship is a controversial topic in many societies from ancient times to nowadays because it often has something to do with compulsory and forbidden by the government. However, a fact which cannot be denied is that in the history of the development of human society, censorship is often utilized by the governors. I cannot completely agree with the speaker's assertion because to some extent existence is reasonable. Censorship has benefit in the security and development of the society to a large extent.

Admittedly, in history censorship always has some negative effects on the progress of society, because the abuse of the governors. In medieval times, government use censorship to control the thought of the public. Any publication which is against the religious and governor's beliefs and benefits is forbidden to publish, and the author would be punished cruelly. Such behavior undermined citizen's freedom of speak and the harmony of the whole society, which eventually result in resistance and revolution of the public. Such examples in history make people have negative attitude towards the system of censorship, neglecting its positive influence on the healthy development of the society.

However, it is unfair that the negative influences resulting from the abuse of censorship become the reason that we deny the system of censorship. Indeed, this system has a good intention in ensuring the harmony and stability of society. Government has the right and responsibility to censor the publication, and we also should not deny that if we utilize censorship in correct way it will benefit the society a lot.  The best example of the necessity of censorship is the classification
of movies. Violent, frightening and sexual screens are not apt to be seen by the children under certain age, and we must censor and supervise the contents of movies in order to protect children get negative influence by seeing such movies. In such situation everyone should admits that censorship is justified and has benefit to society. We cannot refuse censorship in all aspects only because its certain negative influence, especially that such situations result from the wrongly utilization of human.

Obviously, the influence of censorship to our society depends on our attitude in implement. We should strictly set up the system of censorship and supervision in order to ensure the harmony and stability of society. The intention of censorship is to contribute to the security and prosperity of society, but it cannot be fulfilled in the cost of the sacrifice of democracy and freedom of citizens. Any behavior in the name of censorship which undermines the spirits of constitution is unbearable. We should apply censorship in its range and avoid the abuse of it which leads to dictator.

To sum up, censorship has its own justification in enabling the security and prosperity of the development of society. In many situations it has great benefit to our society and to some extent it is even dispensable. But we must cautiously and correctly use it and set up sound supervision system, in order to avoid the negative influence of abuse.

这个问题本来就很难写,看的我晕了,你的电影审查的例子很好,但是否也可以说一说其他方面那,还有政府滥用导致审查制度的消极方面可以多说一些,因为大多数人都支持这点.感觉还可以写更多方面,用词也不要总是那几个词(不过写这种文章也避免不了的)

I strongly agree with the assertion that censorship is rarely, if ever, justified. Two aspects, the principles of censorship and execution of it in the reality, would lend strong support to this statement. Yet, the chaos of information in the modern society brings the necessity of censorship.

To begin with, the principles for censoring is rarely justified and objective. Who would establish the principles of censorship? Not the whole society of a nation, but the government. And more essentially, it is some several politicians who set down the principles for censoring. Common sense tells that almost every government only tells the public the doctrines which the government conforms to. Accordingly and naturally, the government would rule out the opposite speaking, ideas to the dogmas. So, we can often see that a painting exhibition in a museum was cancelled since only several items in the exhibition was suspected that it is likely to bring on some opposite ideas to the government. Also, the editor of a newspaper or magazine, who publishes some essays without censoring, has to abdicate with the pressure of government. This kind of actions go against the nature of democracy that every citizen has the right to embrace the freedom of speech and expression(as Franklin Roosevelt claimed it as the first freedom in his address of "The Four Freedoms").


Adding further support to the statement is that the execution of censorship is rarely justified in the reality. After the principle of censorship is established, how to censor and who would execute the tasks? Let us reconsider the example about the painting exhibition in a museum mentioned before. On the same painting, it is often likely that different people will hold different views. Consequently, whether or not it will pass the censoring fully depends on the person doing this job, exactly, which depends on the education, ideas, and even political or religious beliefs of individuals. How difficult or even impossible that the censorship based on this kind of execution of censorship is often justified!

However, with the advance of information and communication technology, various kinds of information and ideas are full of everywhere of society, some of which are common enemies of mankind, such as eroticism, violence and heresy and so on. We can get any information we want from the Internet, and also a child can easily get some videos full of violence from the Internet. Furthermore, I often get some garbage emails whose subjects is always about the ideas of a kind of heresy －"FaLunGong", which often leads to violence, killing others or even suicide and has been prohibited in China. It is necessary to sweep away all of this from our society, which is the very function and duty of censorship. Imagine that how terrible if a adolescent magazine is full of pictures about eroticism, violence, which can result in a increase of illegal actions and unharmoniousness of society.

As it stands, the censorship, indeed, is rarely, if ever, justified. But a censorship is very indispensable in the modern society. How to perfect the principles and the execution of censorship,
and consequently bring on a harmonious and healthy-atmosphere society, is the responsibility of the whole human being.
