A school or college should pay its teachers at the same rate in all disciplines, regardless of differences in salaries for related fields in the world outside of school. For example, entry-level teachers in mathematics and in the arts should receive the same pay, even if outside of school, math specialists earn a much higher salary on average than do specialists in the arts.

The speaker states that a school or college should pay its teachers at the same rate in all disciplines. I strongly agree with this assertion, by and large, because it is good to the balance of the education.

To begin with, if the school or college pay different salaries according to the related field in the world outside the school, it will indicate that some subjects such as mathematics is more important than art, which is harm to the sound education to the students. In the economy-oriented society, we often judge the values by the money, if the money paid for art teachers is less than for mathematics, it will allow students to assume that learning art is less important than learning mathematics. In fact, learning art is as important as learning mathematics especially in the primary school or college school, because art just teaches one the basic skill for getting in on to society: it provides the aesthetic sense of beauty, endows students with imagination, and even plays an important role in the moral teaching. Without this basic skill, students cannot go further in their study, but, if we give the student the value that art is less important than mathematics, it will greatly impede the development of the students. In short, the different salaries will cause students ignore some low-paid subjects which will do harm to their progress.

Not only this disadvantage will cause, to provide the different salaries will also let the students form a wrong value of job.  Generally speaking, the more one contributes to the society, the more one will gain. Sometimes the salaries even present the degree of recognition of the society. When students realize that the teacher who teaches art is paid much less than the teacher teaches mathematics, they will simply think that the artist is less useful than mathematics and even belittle the one who pursue the trade in art. Moreover, more students will choose their major in some high-paid fields mathematics rather than those low-paid field such as art for a practical purpose which will cause some crucial social problem, for some job will have more labor force than the need while some jobs have few people want to do. a lot of people will not find the job in their major, which is a waste of education.

last but not least, the different salaries will hurt the motivation of the teachers. the teacher is just a job; why should there be some discrimination in this area? The low-paid teacher will feel frustrated because they put the same effort, time and energy, but are paid less. It is naturally that some teachers will spend less effort in teaching students because they think they should get the more reasonable pay, or they will do some part-time job to earn more money to make up the gap; all these will affect the quality of education which is harm to the development of students because they cannot get the deserved education.

In sum, a school and college should not pay different to teachers according to the outside world, because it will do harm to the education itself and create some discrimination. Instead, the only criterion for the teacher should be the effort and the quality of the teaching, which will motivate the teachers and is good to students.
