I fundamentally agree with the issue that government should not restrict scientific research in that restriction on science will hamper its development. However, when the research could lead to great catastrophe to our world, government should not stand without care.[如果有可能开头还是多写一些,精彩些的好]
In the first place, any kind of restriction, either from the government or other institution will have bad effect on the enthusiasm of scientists. As we know, each new scientific discovery came up with a new idea, and this new idea is always rooted in the free thinking of a great scientist standing behind. If government places restriction on it, scientists will feel depressed and their thought will be confined to a narrow realm. Meanwhile, circulation of this opinion will be inhibited and delayed. At the early age of the science, there existed many [such][去了] examples, such as Copernicus ,Bruno and Galileo, their right theory[their theory which was correct in later time] about the universe was prohibited by the government[可能换为宗教符合事实,当然你也可以说总结和政府是一回事] and they was persecuted. This might be one of the reasons why science advances so slowly at that time.
In the second place, restriction on scientific research will do harm[hamper, impede, restrict,都可以] to the interdisciplined subject. In the modern world, with the rapid development of science and technology, many different subjects intertwined with each other to form new ones. Such as biomedicine,[bioinformatics] MEMS(micro electromechanical system). [这里在说说交叉学科的巨大作用]These areas of study require not only free thinking but also co-existence of many different subjects. If government limit anyone of them, they can not properly develop as a whole, for instance, if biology is restricted, biomedicine will surely influenced. Therefore, government should encourage all subjects instead of place any restriction to it.
Admittedly, sometimes, if some kind of research will do harm to our human beings and its result will bring about disaster to the world. It is government's responsibility to intervene. A good case in point is the human cloning .if research on this kind of research succeeded. Human will face a myriad of problems concerned with ethics and morality. In this situation, only government has enough strength and money to prevent its occurring.
In sum, from the above analysis ,we come to the conclusion that government should not restrain scientific research but create a relatively free environment to render the science develop freely .once any research will do harm to our society ,it is the government's obligation to pay attention to it .
