Is it always a good investment to spend money on research? I agree so in that people may gain much benefit and convenience from the results of the research. In some cases, however, it may not a good investment when the results of research are controversial.

With money spending on the research of technology, technology may make great progress so as to benefit people for their living standards. Technology has significantly changed people's life in every means. For example, now people can communicate with each other through the internet and cell phone at any time they want. Also subways and buses provide a convenient way for people to go out. Moreover, people can go to anywhere by air, by ship or by train and the distance is no longer a trouble for us. And television makes us informative what has just happened throughout the world and entertain us in our spare time. All these technological innovations are the results of researches. And the researches may not succeed without enough money spent on them. Therefore, it is a good investment that money is spent on researches that lead to new technological innovations, by which people may gain much advantages.

Furthermore, the money spent on such researches as medical realm, astronomy realm, and so forth, is also a good investment, which may help people physically and explore the unknown. It is true that there still some diseases are frightening enemy to human. In order to conquer such diseases the scientists have done a lot of researches and the government and many companies have invested a large amount of money on these researches, which has made many contributions to the patients. For instance, there are a number of people all over the world suffer from the heart disease, which may suddenly cause their lives. Now by various researches and experiments the scientists have invented artificial heart so as to save more people's lives. Apart from the heart disease, many new curing methods have applied to the diseases that used to be our big enemy. Moreover, a lot of money has been spent on the astronomy field. For example, NASA has launched several satellites to the Mars to explore the planet much closer than before, which may lead us to understand more about the unknown world. Thus, money spent on such realms discussed above is really a wise investment.

Admittedly, it is indeed a bad investment on the some researches, whose results are controversial. For instance, cloning is still a controversial theme and every country considers it unmoral to clone human. Some scientists may argue that they clone human to save those who are suffering incurable disease. In fact they have to clone human for experiments first and even may treat them as mice in their researches before they come to the final conclusion about the way to cure such diseases, which is extraordinarily unacceptable. Everybody have the right to live and are protected by the laws. However how can we judge the cloned human? Can they share the same rights as us? Hence, money spent on controversial researches is definitely not a good investment.

To sum up, it is a good investment to spend money researches that may bring benefit and convenience to people's life. However, when the results of research are controversial, to some extent, it will be an unwise investment instead.
