P: Admittedly, study only for pursing high grades has negative influence on the result of learning, while not all levels of education cannot benefit from nowadays system of education.
A: To a large extent, examination is the most equitable and accurate way to evaluate the effect of education in contemporary social circumstance.
B: Examination which measured by grades promote competition and endeavor in study, which can also enhance the quality of education.
C: However, we should not only rely on grade to assess the ability of higher education.





Nowadays people play more and more emphasis on education. Whether the pursuing of high grades in study is harmful to the essence of education is a controversial topic in contemporary society. Someone may competition limits the quality of learning. However, in my point of view, although we do not encourage competition only for high grades, these people seems overemphasize the negative influence of current examination system.

To begin with, it is not deniable that examination is the most equitable and accurate way to evaluate the effect of education in contemporary social circumstance to a large extent.  As a social enterprise, education should take both fairness and efficiency into consideration. Firstly, test evaluate by marks can enable rather fairness in the process of evaluation. Utilizing the way of marks can avoid unfairness, objectivity, and prejudice to a large extent. Secondly, test evaluated by grades is the most efficient way for the evaluation of education. We cannot imagine how we can evaluate so many students if we do not use grades to evaluate the result of study. Adopting grades to evaluate students is the indispensable and most efficient choice in current education system.

Moreover, the speaker's assertion seems a little pessimism about the negative effect of competition for grades. In fact, such behavior also has passive function in education. Examination which is measured by grades is the power of competition and endeavor in study, which can promote students to adopt more knowledge. It may benefit students a lot in a society which adores competition and self-achievement so much. Meanwhile, especially at primary stage, either common students or talents should master enough fundamental knowledge, which can be best evaluated by grades. Although we cannot say that students who can always get high grades are all best students, at least it is undeniable that they have the ability of study, which is important in current society.

Notwithstanding, it does not mean that grade is the only aim and standard of study. We do not advocate pursuing grades by any kind of means, which may lead to harmful result. Students are only interested in the knowledge which will be tested in examinations, while neglecting many other skills such as practice ability and the way of thinking. Meanwhile, in order to get high grades, students may tend to become selfish, even learning to cheat. Moreover, grades have become a rather serious pressure for students. We always read from the newspaper that some students chose to suicide only because the failure in examination. Although we are still adopt examination evaluated by grades as the main mean of evaluation of education, we should not overemphasize the significance of grades as well.

To sum up, evaluation by grades is an available and efficient means in current education system to promote learning to a large extent. However, we should not only depend on grades to evaluate students, especially at the higher levels of education which call for more creativity and the ability of independent thinking

非常生动的例子就是这边的人考GRE为了拼高分做了许多不切实际拔苗助长的事情，当然你要是补充说那是不得已而为之也是可以的，GRE考试害死人阿。背了那么多单词，结果很多考完就忘了，于是乎"Competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education."
