Then someone may ask: toward their work, whether should scholars and researchers be more concerned with their individual interests or with the contribution to the larger society?

The interest plays an important role in research and study. It is both the incentive and the catalyst in the process of creation, new ideas frequently coming out and the process accelerated a lot. Interested in computer programming, Bill Gates and his fellows founded an overwhelming IT empire-Microsoft, and then developed a profound operating system-Windows. Fascinated in biology, Darwin explored several lands, studied many species and terminally fulfill The Evolution Theory, a milestone in the history of biology. Sometimes in research and study, the interest leads to the triumph.

However, it is infeasible for a group to allow scholars and researchers only focus on pursuing individual interests. An institution, a firm, or a country, has to decide, among the large variety of areas, which to research with limited resources, money and time. The decision may be sometimes due to what is most urgently demanded and the interests are, therefore, far less considered. If a software company, for example, has to develop a new technology on website to cater the increasing market in this new field; no matter how uninterested the engineers would be, the project has to start up. It is sometimes more a mission than an interest that the scholars and researchers carry out a study.

Furthermore, without concerning the work’s contribution to the larger society, doing research with mere interests may not only result in the waste of the resources and money, but may also bring serious and disastrous outcomes. Crime on the internet, computer virus; such scandals bombarded us citizens everyday. Baby clone brought out several discusses and speculations on moral. Zealotic research on biochemical weapons has been putting this world into endless scare.
