151."High-speed electronic communications media, such as electronic mail and television, tend to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication."

Does high-speed electronic communications media tend to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication, as the speaker claims? As far as I am concerned, I disagree with the assertion. In my opinion high-speed electronic communications media promote not prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication. In the following discussion I would like to present evidence to support my standpoint.

In today’s highly competitive society, the living pace and working pressure have become quicker and heavier, we have no enough time and energy to have traditional face-to-face communication. High-speed electronic communications media increases the chances that people communicate and it can perform most functions that traditional media has provided. We can use telephones for conversation with our friends and families; we can use E-mail to transfer important information and documents, even photo and multi-media files; we can use Internet to meet people all over the world and learn a lot of information about other countries. Maybe we have no enough time to visit our friends, but can we say that we have no enough time to telephone and say hello to them? The meaningful and thoughtful communication is just a part of the overall communication; the others are futile and superficial. However, where does the meaningful and thoughtful communication come from if the overall communication does not happen at all? Therefore high-speed electronic communications media promotes meaningful and thoughtful communication by promoting overall communication.

Furthermore, high-speed electronic communications media arouses our attention to those problems that are closely linked to us. After watching an educational TV program people will found their own ideas about what they see and want to share their opinions with families and friends. For example, in China, there is a famous TV program called “the focus”, every night it will give a deep and comprehensive report on a hot problem in China and the world. These reports often bring heat discussion of those problems among people. In other words, this TV program promotes meaningful and thoughtful communication among people by evoking their attention to some problems.

Additionally, high-speed electronic communications media can avoid direct confrontation and embarrassment which may happen in traditional communication. Sometimes we may not feel comfortable to apologize to others face to face for what we have done wrong to them, because we fear to lose our face. At this time, an email or a phone call can be more convenient and can avoid embarrassment.

However, we must confess that high-speed electronic communications media has its own disadvantages .It runs short of body language which is important in communication. In communication it is just not enough for us to say the words; we need eye contact, body language to express our feelings. Sometimes we are so happy or angry that we are out of words. At these times, there is nothing more efficient to express our happiness or anger than a big hug or turn our face to others. Therefore, in some cases, if time and energy permitting, we should have face-to-face communication.

In conclusion, high-speed electronic communications media does not prevent but promote meaningful and thoughtful communication in several aspects. We should learn to use them to have efficient communication with others. At the same time we should not neglect the advantages that the traditional communication will bring under some circumstances.

In the following discussion I would like to present evidence to support my standpoint.最好展开,present ... through ...把三个TS精要的列出来

In today’s highly competitive society, todays's 好别扭,recently nowadays ...the living pace and working pressure have become quicker and heavier, we have no enough time and energy to have traditional face-to-face communication.have...have可换的V是很多的啦,no enough? High-speed electronic communications media increases the chances that people communicate and it can perform most functions that 想做个比较吧,就说出优点traditional media has provided. However, where does the meaningful and thoughtful communication come from if the overall communication does not happen at all? Therefore high-speed electronic communications media promotes meaningful and thoughtful communication by promoting overall communication. 我感觉深入和广泛本来就是相对的两个方面,深入也不仅仅是用数量堆出来的

In other words, this TV program promotes meaningful and thoughtful communication among people by evoking their attention to some problems.这段不错,提出了电子媒体的优势,一对多嘛

Additionally, high-speed electronic communications media can avoid direct confrontation and embarrassment which may happen in traditional communication. Sometimes we may not feel comfortable 为什么不直接uncomfortableto apologize to others face to face for what we have done wrong to them, because we fear to lose our face. At this time, an email or a phone call can be more convenient and can avoid embarrassment.这段和meanful, thoughtful有关系吗,我是看不出

However, we must confess 没有做错什么,不用confess吧that high-speed electronic communications media has its own disadvantages .It runs short of body language which is important in communication. In communication it is just not enough for us to say the words; we need eye contact, body language to express our feelings. Sometimes we are so happy or angry that we are out of words. At these times, there is nothing more efficient to express our happiness or anger than a big hug or turn our face to others. Therefore, in some cases, if time and energy permittinged, we should have face-to-face communication.是想表达body language是meanful thoughtful的关键因素吧,说出来吧

In conclusion, high-speed electronic communications media does not prevent but promote meaningful and thoughtful communication in several aspects. We should learn to use them to have efficient communication with others. At the same time we should not neglect the advantages that the traditional communication will bring usunder some circumstances.

In my opinion【In fact,】 high-speed electronic communications media promote not【do not promote to】 prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication. In the following discussion I would like to present evidence to support my standpoint.

In today’s highly competitive society, the living pace and working pressure have become quicker and heavier, we have no enough time and energy to have traditional face-to-face communication. 前面一大句是没有用的,缩写一下然后用thus链接下文High-speed electronic communications media increases the chances that people communicate and it can perform most functions that traditional media has provided. We can use telephones for conversation with our friends and families; we can use E-mail to transfer important information and documents, even【小问题,用as well as就可以】 photo and multi-media files; we can use Internet to meet people all over the world and learn a lot of information about other countries. 没有体现meaningful和thoughtful的地方,请注意你的TS不过是和traditional media相同的地方。

However, 用admittedly较好we must confess that high-speed electronic communications media has【have】 its【their】 own disadvantages .It runs short of body language which is important in communication. In communication it is just not enough for us to say the words; we need eye contact, body language to express our feelings. Sometimes we are so happy or angry that we are out of words. At these times, there is nothing more efficient to express our happiness or anger than a big hug or turn our face to others【That‘s what you really did?】.

Meaningful和thoughtful的意思在全文未有显示。我觉得文章对自己的观点论证不是很充分,我找了老外写的文章你看看:
Do high-speed means of communication, particularly television and computers, tend to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication, as the speaker suggests? Although ample empirical evidence suggests so with respect to television, the answer is far less dear when it comes to communication via computers.
Few would argue that since its inception broadcast television has greatly enhanced
communication to the masses. The circulation of even the most widely read newspapers pales
compared to the number of viewers of popular television news programs. Yet traditional
television is a one-way communications medium, affording viewers no opportunity to engage
those so-called "talking heads" in dialogue or respond. Of course, there is nothing inherent
about television that prevents us from meaningful and thoughtful communication with each
other. In fact, in television's early days it was a fairly common occurrence for a family to gather
around the television together for their favorite show, then afterwards discuss among
themselves what they had seen and heard. Yet over time television has proven itself to serve
primarily as a baby-sitter for busy parents, and as an means of escape for those who wish to
avoid communicating with the people around them. Moreover, in the pursuit of profit, network
executives have determined over time that the most effective uses of the medium are for
fast-paced entertainment and advertising--whose messages are neither thoughtful nor
meaningful.
Do computers offer greater promise for thoughtful and reflective communication than
television? Emphatically, yes. After all, media such as email and the Web are interactive by
design. And the opportunity for two-way communication enhances the chances of meaningful
and thoughtful communication. Yet their potential begs the question: Do these media in fact
serve those ends? It is tempting to hasten that the answer is "yes" with respect to email; after
are, we've all heard stories about how email has facilitated reunions of families and old friends,
and new long-distance friendships and romances. Moreover, it would seem that two-way
written communication requires far more thought and reflection than verbal conversation.
Nevertheless, email is often used to avoid face-to-face encounters, and in practice is used as
a means of distributing quick memos. Thus on balance it appears that email serves as an
impediment, not an aide, to thoughtful and reflective communication.
With respect to Web-based communication, the myriad of educational sites, interactive and
otherwise, is strong evidence that the Web tends to enhance, rather than prevent, meaningful
communication. Distance learning courses made possible by the Web lend further credence to
this assertion. Nonetheless, by all accounts it appears that the Web will ultimately devolve into
a mass medium for entertainment and for e-commerce, just like traditional television.
Meaningful personal interactivity is already yielding to advertising, requests for product
information, buy-seU orders, and titillating adult-oriented content.
Thus, on balance these high-speed electronic media do indeed tend to prevent rather than
facilitate meaningful and thoughtful communication. In the final analysis, any mass medium
carries the potential for uplifting us, enlightening us, and helping us to communicate with and
understand one another. However, by all accounts, television has not fulfilled that potential;
and whether the Web will serve us any better is ultimately up to us as a society.
