issue5 大家基本都写过这篇的吧,互相讨论讨论

5. A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer.

As I deem, it is true that a nation should provide national curriculum to all its students before undergraduate education which most schools should accept and follow. However, there are still some special schools which should be given full right to decide its academic courses. In addition, a nation should also be flexible to give local schools certain rights to add some courses to that national curriculum.

When we go to school, we learn not only knowledge and skills, but also values and virtues. Mostly we begin to form our own value system when we are only kids, in which lies one important reason of requiring national curriculum in primary schools. A nation should let its future citizens know what she values, for children are the future of the nation. Love for the motherland, respect for the old, a spirit of never give up, diligence, creative and much more, all such virtues a nation values can be reflected in the courses determined in the same national curriculum. If such national curriculum hasn’t made compulsory in primary schools, it is possible that though equip with similar basic knowledge and skills, children from different parts of the nation are holding different value systems. Then, when they grow up and become main force of the nation, problems might arise.

Furthermore, there is another advantage of national curriculum. If students all over the country are given the same courses, it is convenient for teachers and educators to work out a common standard to judge the level of their students. Thus students of the same age all over the country are made sure not have knowledge spans from each other. Otherwise, if there is need for a child of higher-educated school to transfer to a lower-educated school, he/she has two choices: to enter a class of his/her age and find out courses given are too simple, or to choose a class of same knowledge level but has no company of the same age. Apparently, neither is good. Similar problem emerges on the contrary situation.

However, as mentioned before, there is a special kind of school which needs consideration—the art school. Children fond of art and have certain talents may aim at art school at early age. In my opinion, after they have finished the twelfth grade, they have enough knowledge and skills for daily life and can be perceived as cultivated people, thus afterwards they can choose an art road. If fact, there are already art high schools. For art high schools, common educators cannot decide what to teach, so leave the task to experts.

Though I admit that a nation should impose a national curriculum on all students of common schools before they enter college, I will argue that local schools should be given right to some extent to provide additional courses beside national core lessons thus to make the final curriculum more flexible, student-oriented and compatible. Students may want to learn more beside compulsory courses due to their own interest. Since their interests vary a lot from individual to individual, moreover, when taking into account the specific condition of every school, it is not practical for educators to design this kind of lessons as well as include them in a national compulsory curriculum. However, to encourage more learning, such courses are needed. More important, different part of the country may have different culture, especially true for a multiracial nation. These different cultures are precious for all human-being so any attempt to maintain them will make sense. And education is surely an efficient way. Nonetheless, this task can only leave to local educators, who are familiar with local culture. So come forth the need to grant local schools to provide additional courses.

Therefore, to imbue the students with national value system and to make foundation for a standard to judge to learning progress of children, a nationwide compulsory curriculum is needed. On the other hand, a nation should give local schools certain right to determine additional courses, as long as these courses are designed to hearten students’ learning desire, or to serve as a means of maintaining local culture.

5. A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer.

When we go to school, 【这里用的不好,应该说在学校里面我们学到了。。。】 we learn not only knowledge and skills, but also values and virtues. Mostly we begin to form our own value system when we are only kids, in which 【which?value system?】(我想表达的是在以上那个事实中…待我修改修改)lies one important reason of requiring national curriculum in primary schools. 【reason呢?怎么没有说明一下解释一下啊?】(我的reason就是mostly那句话, 看来表达不清呢)A nation should let its future citizens know what she【who?nation?】( the nation) values, for children are the future of the nation. Love for the motherland, respect for the old, a spirit of never give up, diligence, creative 【这个是形容词】and much more, all such virtues a nation values can be【应该证明只有统一课程能,而不是简简单单的can,那不是在说其他的也可以达到吗】 (其实这个地方是自己底气不足啊, 都不敢说得那么肯定…) reflected in the courses determined in the same national curriculum. If such national curriculum hasn’t made compulsory in primary schools, it is possible that though equip with similar basic knowledge and skills, children from different parts of the nation are holding different value systems. Then, when they grow up and become main force of the nation, problems might arise.
