The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds.
------正文------
According to the speaker, because machines are only tools of human minds therefore, the human mind will always be superior to machines. As far as I am concerned, machines are indeed tools of our minds according to humans' initiative to invent them, however, we should never overrate the superiority of human mind to machines, because with the rocketing development of scientific discoveries and technological innovations, machines have become increasingly intelligent that people must pay attention to limit them within our control. Or otherwise, the machines will possibily threaten the survival of the human race-- let alone be superior to human mind in most of the aspects.
Admittedly, machines are only tools of human minds because it is our purpose to invent them. We can hardly propose one machine that is not intended to serve human as a application or tool. For example, mechanical instruments in the working place are aimed to increase the efficiency of production; advances in digital automation equipped us to communicate interpersonally more conveniently; advances in mechanical automation are proven to radically change the situation of our work place--make it more safer and revolutionize many production processes.
Moreover, besides from our purposes of using machines as our tool, we humans have the power to control them from deviating our aims. Although machines have some intelligence to solve some problems that humans have anticipated, or intended, most of motivation are controled by humans. If we do not want the machines have some kinds of function, we can easily cease it without hesitation. In addition, what machines can do is only to follow the humans' instruction, they do not able to think indepently when confronting a specific problem, and can not develop the skill of creative problem solving. Also, machines can not give emotional response to intelligent questions. Simply put, when serving their role as the tools of human minds, machines are less superior than human mind in many respects including intelligence, creative problem solving, emotional response and etc.
However, in this era of rapid scientific and technological change leading to the prosperity of the whole world, machines are experiencing an unprecedented rapid rate of improvement. And in many cases, human minds are left behind because of the fundamental nature of the machines. For instance, computers or other electronical applications are able to calcuate much faster and more accurate than human brain; the memory ability of human minds is also far from comparable to the those instruments. In many areas including the automation of work place and home applications, those equipments have successfully fullfilled their role to dramatically increase the efficiency and free people from many rote, but onerous tasks. Although until now, the machines have been within the control of humans, if we always neglect their potential ability and further improvements, humans might be threatened by them in the future. Advances in biotechnology have proved that equipped machines with more intelligence and sensational response is quite possible in the near future. Considering this trends, we must pay enough attention to the development of machines, especially those controlled by some technological freaks who lacks social responsibility.
In conclusion, machines are definitely the tools of human minds and to a great extent, human mind are superior to machines. However, we must always pay attention to the development of machines to ensure that they are within our control. |
