92. "In any academic area or professional field, it is just as important to recognize the limits of our knowledge and understanding as it is to acquire new facts and information." 92. 在所有专业学术领域,认识到我们的不足和获取新的信息同等重要
It has long been a public controversy whether it is as important to recognize one's knowledge and understanding limits as it is to gain new information. At first thought, the two aspects seem to be both necessary for an upwardly mobile learner, however, after carefully weighing, I should say that to acquire new facts and information is more important than to recognize the limits of our knowledge and understanding, although the latter is actually also required.[[写反对的观点,比较新颖,一般人上去就是完全同意的]]
First of all, new facts and information will deepen and broaden our understanding of the unknown. This is a time with blast of information, new concepts and technologies emerge everyday, which pushes[[push]] us to understand the new things and update our knowledge. The best and the only way-at least it seems to me, is to absorb new facts and information that can make it easier for you to adapt yourself at your professional field. That may explain why the professors in almost every college require their students to read many recent-published papers.
Secondly, the solution to one problem may lead to the appearance of more problems in the world of knowledge, which invites further exploration and more progress as a result. Nowadays, many advanced technologies, such as MEMS, Optical-Electronic, and the like, are multi-discipline. Take myself as an example, I'm a student in the major of Optical, but when solve an optical problem I always encounter several problems in electronics-to measure the signal magnitude, in fabrication-to place the lens in the optimal and stable structure, and even, sometimes in biology, at this time, I usually suffer from the lack of new facts and information.
The two aspects above are both about the importance of acquiring new facts and information, so you may wonder how about the importance of recognizing the limits of our knowledge and the understanding. Of course, as I said before, I admit the necessity of recognizing self limits, but overemphasizing them may hinder our effort to ceaselessly pursue new frontiers of the knowledge. People who over consider about their limits may be unwilling or even afraid of learning new knowledge.[[原文只是说同样重要没说过强调阿]]
To conclude, there is no easy solution for such a complex issue, however, taking into account of all these factors in the analysis above, one may have no difficulty to draw the conclusion that it is more important to acquire new facts and information than it is to recognize the limits of our knowledge and understanding.
