Issue120 So much is new and complex today that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present .

With the quickening pace of modern society and technology, people's lives become increasingly exciting and interesting. Thus, some people maintain that so much is new and complex today that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present. However, I totally disagree with this idea, and history can not be avoided.

Admittedly, in the present, life is full of fresh and complicated ideas, knowledge and living methods. We can use genetic engineer to cure the serious diseases, use the computer for studying, calculating, writing the paper, do the businesses and records, use Internet to communicate with foreigners directly and conduct safe as well as huge international trade, those of which can never be thought in the past. The advanced technology as well as modern society change most our lives and improve our living conditions, which attract most our attentions.

On the contrary, history must be not ignored, because it plays an important role in developing society in the present. First of all, history provides huge valuable and reliable knowledge. For example, Einstein's relativism takes a great part in modern research, learning and daily life. If we did not look back for this theory, who would know it and take use of it? Thus, new things related with this theory could never be created. Meanwhile, people have already learned Newton's classic physical theories since in the middle school, which are also from the history.  In the second, people in the present can gain the historical experiences and historical data through learning history. For example, in the past, there were a multitude of wars caused by disrespecting other countries' cultures, beliefs and ethics. Even if right now, many wars can not be avoided by human being and society, no more wars are caused by misunderstanding and disregarding other countries' ethics and cultures. In fact, through learning from historical experiences about wars and conflicts, people begin to realize that it is responsible for every one to respect different cultures of different people, because it plays the necessary role in achieving peaceful world and improving the benign friendship with other countries. Meanwhile, in the scientific field, the researchers and scientists can take the advantage of historical data and experiences to avoid some useless efforts and failures, which are warned by history in order to achieve the effective road to the goals of study. In the third, through looking back for an understanding of the past, people can recognize their own different cultures and characteristics from others. For instance, why are Chinese people more shying than the western people? After learning history, people know one reason that China has been influenced by the Confucian and Buddhism for a very long time, which cultivate people to being modesty and inside. However, for western people, most of them are affected by the Christian, which is to express loving and humane outside. Thus, they can have special characteristics. Therefore, as long as people can clearly understand history, they can realize the human being, the science, the society and their future.  

In addition, besides above, history provides an important apocalypse, which reveals that the basic human nature is not changed from generation to generation. Although modern people's thoughts and living habits are greatly changed from ancient people correspondingly with development of modern technology, our desire, motives, fears and long-entrenched moral standards are unchanged. For example, human being’s desires and motives are to improve the individual’s living conditions, human being’s fears at night or being lonely, people’s hate on evil and favor on kindness as well as loyalty, honesty, justice, fairness. Therefore, studying history induces to form a crucially close relationship between modern people and the ancient, which is to break out the irrational illusion that modern human beings are totally different from the ancient human beings.

However, if people completely ignore the history, what will we leave for our next generation? Nothing. And world's improvement is impossible.

In conclusion, the author's opinion is wrong. He/ she ignores the importance and significance of the history, because he/she puts much emphasis on the rationality. In a word, no history, no development in the present.

[个人觉得让步做的还可以，第三段论述历史的作用觉得很好，可是更觉得应该分成两个段落比较好，一段太长了。而且这一大段说了好多东西。第四段在说明学习历史能够在道德方面给我们一些启示，有些东西是不能够变化的。我觉得这段写的不好，比较晦涩，读了半天很难掌握意思，还是从学习历史能够教给我们许多道德伦理方面的知识比较好吧，例如尊老爱幼、勤俭节约等美德方面。个人意见仅供参考。]
