In the argument, the author suggests that replace books that are borrowed no more than once a year with sufficient copies of more recent books. Although some evidence provided seemingly support his suggestion, the author's reasoning is however open to some critical questions.

First, that a recent novel is frequently borrowed up cannot indicate that people are interested in all recent books. Perhaps this novel is a best seller that many people want to read. Or the novel is one of a famous series so that people do not want to miss it. Thus, this novel may be just temporarily popular. In addition, the popularity of one novel does not necessarily indicate that popularity of all recent books, or even all recent novels. It is completely possible that people in this city are always interested in this kind of novels, such as science fiction. To replace with more recent other kind of books may not solve this issue.

Second, even if the citizens are interested in recent new books, the library may not have to replace old books with them. The author fails to provide sufficient evidence to show that the space of the library is extremely limited that replace old books is the only to introduce the new ones. If the Library is large enough to continue introducing more recent books, it absolutely do not have to replace.

Finally, the protest may not be ignored despite that the group is small. The people of the group may be specialists on the realm of library; their protest is thus authoritative enough not to be ignored. In addition, people who do not protest probably also disagree this suggestion; they instead just choose to keep silent. Ignoring this protest may result in far less customers in the future.

In sum, lacking evidence and information about the reading habit of the citizens and the condition of the library, less considering the protest, the author fails to well reason this argument.
