A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer.
------正文------
The above statement argues that the same national curriculum is requested. Some one may embrace this view; But I assert that both the same national curriculum and flexible local curriculum which depends on different places are more suitable to both the students in individuals and nations as a wholethe combination of national curriculum and flexible local curriculum which depends on different places is more suitable to both students individually and the whole nation than curriculum only from the national authority or local schools.
On one hand, the same national curriculum could make contribution to the development of the nation. At first, the standard curriculum encourages the unifying of the nation, especially a nation with various peoplespeople with different background?. A standard curriculum provides the students all over the country with the same culture, the same values, the same views etc. The cohesion of a nation would be strengthened very much by the share of the same cultures and ideas. Secondly, the same curriculum does favor to the communication with each other form different parts, where different local language are spoken, of a large nation like PRC. That all of my classmates could communicate with each other freely, thanks to the same course literary at our primary school, serves a typical example.
In the history of China, the sovereign of the Qin-age implemented a policy that force all people under his domination to accept the same culture, use the same currency, and speak the same language. Therefore, he founded the first unified nation in Chinese history and maintained it for hundreds of years. Of course his behavior is too fierce, but the influence of his policy on the China history are positive in objective perspective. The case shows us that the sharing of the same culture could enhance the cohesion very much, and the same curriculum in nationwide provide the precondition of the sharing of the same culturesharing culture as a purpose of education and unified curriculum as a mean is good, but it does not account for one extra paragraph in my opinion.
On the other hand, the states in different places are quite distinguishednever use distinguished as the meaning different, which need some special courses to suit the different states. Therefore, a flexible curriculum adding to the standard national curriculum is indispensable. Every place has its own distinguishing industry and therefore different job market whichno which need the student tomake different preparation for the future success in career, so they need a flexible curriculumthree clause with two conjection in the same category, seems fussy. In addition, different place developing their own local courses urges the diversity and vitality of the cultures, and it is wholesome for the nation in long runtotally confused, in the previous paragraph, you say it is good for but now its inverse is also good for the nation. I think different situation in which the two statement can applicate should be developed in detail.
Neither of the same national curriculum nor the flexible one can satisfies all needs of the whole nation alone, so it is wise for the government to take both the same national curriculum and the flexible local one. |
