Issue110. "When we concern ourselves with the study of history, we become storytellers. Because we can never know the past directly but must construct it by interpreting evidence, exploring history is more of a creative enterprise than it is an objective pursuit. All historians are storytellers."

Hyder White, a famous historian in the United States, protests that the sensitivity of historians rests with the ability of creating a convincing story from a succession of historical data and facts. As a non-scholar, I firmly believe that historians are first storytellers in that history, full of logic and vividness is the production of creative thinking and analysis.

It is historians' creative mental activity that makes fragments of past data, fact and materials a systematic knowledge called history, and endows them with extraordinary meanings. Since the real history is a bypast fact which is difficult for us to verify, the history we refer to means a record, expatiation, and evaluation of the past materials and a recombination of past fragments. When individuals retrospect the experiences and course of their lives, they are likely to organize each part of live by making them a story according to their own patterns. Similarly, facing the past data and materials, historians comprehend them with various aspects and cultural backgrounds. for example, the most famous historian in ancient China Simaqian, compiled history of Qin period and Han period with different attitude and comprehension, for the limitation of the historical material. Since people could not obtain complete and absolutely accurate material, but have to construct them by interpreting evidence and exploring them with different perception, which may make the same history a tragedy or comedy. From this perspective, there is no virtually difference among the work of historians and fictionist and dramatist.

On the surface, history is merely the documentation of past dynasties and events with dramatic and fascinating words. Virtually, the connotation of history is the reasoning and research of the truth and the demonstration of the origin of a historical fact; the purpose of studying history is to provide people with a further cognition of why and how historical events happened so that we can better absorb the quintessence of the past and correct the drawbacks so that we can manage our future well. Only by recognizing the hypostasis of human civilization and the development of society, distinguishing the difference of various periods in each nation and region, and exploring the factors which effected human history, that is, only by historians’ creative thinking and reasoning of the truth of historic information and their philosophic summarizing of previous events, can they make their judgments on historical materials and reach the purpose of composing history.

Admittedly, some people claim that historians should faithfully write history according to the past materials and it is unnecessarily for them to make creative search for the reason that from the perspective above, when history appears in our minds, it is not simply an objective document, but a fictional story. However, this proposal will to a large extent restrict historians’ mind and make the research method only a confirmation of the historical materials, and hence history will become some fragments but not a systematic and logical subject. Historians’ creative thinking does not necessarily means juggling or cheating, but represents their correct and objective judgment on historical materials, philosophic foresight and sensitivity on history, which is the scientific attitude when studying history.

In sum, similarly to any subject, history also needs further exploring and creative thinking, which is a basic research method in learning knowledge. Historian should first be storytellers so that they can endue the past facts with a clear skeleton and further discover the rule of the development of society and at the same time help people to create an appealing future.

B1B2的顺序我想过 之所以这样写是因为我认为B1B2是递进的关系 B1说的是表面的，将历史组织起来，形成优美生动逻辑的故事，B2从研究历史的意义上来说。 所以这样安排的。
例子实在没有 实在想不出来 很愁ing
