185. "Scandals whether in politics, academia, or other areas can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

Nowadays, we are imparted all kinds of scandals in various areas such as politics, academia every day. Among these endless scandals, we find that some of them can be useful, which focus our attention on some unrevealing problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Scandals can reveal some unbeknown political problems which harm the public interest and focus public attention on them so that we can take some remedies and reform, henceforth keep our weather eyes open to avoid the happening again of this kind of problem. In this way, scandals exert their use. For supporting examples we need look no further than the Watergate cover-up with President Nixon. This scandal urged us to increased the level of scrutiny and accountability the public officials held to, thereby working a lasting benefit to our society. Also consider the Clinton-Gore fundraising scandal that sparked a call for campaign-finance reform of which our society will be the dear beneficiary. Surely, no public speaker and reformer could have called our attention to the president misconduct unless the two scandals had surfaced. Therefor, scandals can be useful sometimes in political area.

In academia, scandals can also expose many problems that we will neglect otherwise. Similarly, after these scandals revealing, we enhanced our supervision level to purify the academia. In the end of 2002, a panel of Bell labs found that one of their excellent scientist -- Jan Hendrik Schon, who had released more than one hundred papers on Science Journal and Nature Journal, guilty on 16 out of 24 charges of misconduct. When this finding was starting to filter through the physics community, The American Physical Society, for instance, had released a set of statements on professional conduct. Besides, the whole academia increased the level of scrutiny into academic papers. Without these scandals, We might never give our attention to the sort of “academic crime” and take some actions to prevent it. That is to say, scandals can be also useful in academic area under some circumstance.

Not only in politics and academia but also in most areas such as economy, sport, education and so forth, scandals have their role. After the Enron scandal and the WorldCom scandal, we gave our attention to “finance black hole” of corporations and found that many corporations had some finance problems more or less. The series of scandals leaded to the reform of the nation finance system. And the endless drug scandals of athletes remind us all the time that the anti-drug battle has not finished yet. Besides, the education briberies scandals in China focused the Chinese attention on the education system and resulted in an extensive reform of education. Because of the special effect on attracting public attention, scandals can be useful in many areas.

Admittedly, scandals might distract our attention from something we should care about indeed sometimes. Every day, a lot of scandals serve little useful purpose such as star-sex scandal become headline news. These scandals do not result in any sort of useful reform and distract our attention from far more important issues such as peace, safety that are relegated to the second page of the newspaper.

In sum, although scandals sometimes will distract our attention, they can be useful whether in politics, academia, or other areas because they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could so that we can solve these problems to some extend.

Nowadays, we are imparted all kinds of scandals in various areas such as politics, academia every day. Among these endless这个词好像不是很贴切,用innumerable如何 scandals, we find that some of them can be useful, which focus our attention on some unrevealing problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Scandals can reveal some unbeknown political problems which harm the public interest and focus public attention on them so that we can take some remedies andor even 后者的程度甚于前者 reform, henceforth这个词是从今以后的意思吧,好像用在这不合适,用从而consequently如何 keep our weather eyes open to avoid the happening again用在of前面不合适,修饰happening的定语紧跟其后比较好 of this kind of problem. In this way, scandals exert their use. For supporting examples we need look no further than the Watergate cover-up with the President Nixon. This scandal urged us to increased increase the level of scrutiny and accountability the public officials held holding? to, thereby working a lasting benefit to our society. Also consider the Clinton-Gore fundraising scandal that sparked a call for campaign-finance reform of from? which our society will be the dear beneficiary. Surely, no public speaker and reformer could have called our attention to the president misconducts unless the two scandals had surfaced. So, therefore之类的词,so一般用在非正式场合比较多;或者用in this sense, 去掉后面sometimesscandals can be useful sometimes in political area.

In academia, scandals can also expose many problems that we will neglect otherwise. Similarly, after these scandals revealinghaving been revealed, we enhanced our supervision level to purify the academia. In the end of 2002, a panel of Bell labs found that one of their excellent scientist -- Jan Hendrik Schon, who had released more than one hundred papers on Science Journal and Nature Journal, guilty on 16 out of 24 charges of misconduct. When this finding was starting to filter through the physics community, The the American Physical Society, for instance, had released a set of statements on professional conduct. Besides, the whole academia increased the level of scrutiny into academic papers. To some extent the academic scandals restrain the "academic crime".

And the endless enormous drug scandals of athletes remind us all the time that the anti-drug battle has not finished yet. Besides 上面用过,可以考虑aside from those 句型, the education briberies scandals in China focused the Chinese attention on the education system and resulted in an extensive reform of education. Because of the special effect on attracting public attention, scandals can be useful in many areas.

Admittedly, scandals might distract our attention from something we should care about indeed sometimes. Every day, a lot of scandals serve little useful purpose such as star-sex scandalscandals,因为你后面是become; 加which, such as 后面不能加句子吧become headline news. These scandals do not result in any sort of useful reform and but distract our attention from far more important issues such as peace, and safety that are relegated to the second page of the newspaper. Even so, the benefit of some scandals should not be ignored.

In sum, although scandals sometimes will distract our attention, they can be useful whether in politics, academia, or other areas because they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could so that we can solve these problems to some extend.

Nowadays, we are imparted all kinds of scandals in various areas such as politics, academia every day.
scandals, we find that some of them can be useful, which focus our attention on some unrevealing problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Scandals can reveal some unbeknown political problems which harm the public interest and focus public attention on them so that we can take some remedies andor even
keep our weather eyes open to avoid the happening again用在of前面不合适,修饰happening的定语紧跟其后比较好 说的对,我改

Every day, a lot of scandals serve little useful purpose such as star-sex scandals become headline. These scandals do not result in any sort of useful reform and distract our attention from far more important issues such as peace, safety that are relegated to the second page of the newspaper.[如果能说一点原因就更好了]

In sum, although scandals sometimes will distract our attention, they can be useful whether in politics, academia, or other areas because they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could so that we can solve these problems to some extend.

This scandal urged us to increased the level of scrutiny and accountability the public officials held to[to 后面跟什么呢?], thereby working a lasting benefit to our society. Also consider the Clinton-Gore fundraising scandal that sparked a call for campaign-finance reform of which our society will be the dear beneficiary. Surely, no public speaker and reformer could have called our attention to the president misconduct unless the two scandals had surfaced. 感觉突兀]Therefor, scandals can be useful sometimes in political area.

In academia, scandals can also expose many problems that we will neglect otherwise. Similarly, after these scandals revealing, we enhanced our supervision level to purify the academia. In the end of 2002, a panel of Bell labs found that one of their excellent scientist -- Jan Hendrik Schon, who had released more than one hundred papers on Science Journal and Nature Journal, guilty on 16 out of 24 charges of misconduct[汗,不明白,请指教]. When this finding was starting to [用进行时的start在这合适吗?用was filting 如何?] filter through the physics community, The American Physical Society, for instance, had released a set of statements on professional conduct.

Because of the special effect on attracting public attention, scandals can be useful in many areas.[例子真多,思路开,佩服!]
