Issue185同主题写作
185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

Here is the issue about the function of the scandals. For me, I strongly agree with the title statement. The reasons are as follows.

To begin with, as a scandal itself is concerned, bringing about disgrace and offence against moral, it exerts a negative impact on social ethos. As we all know, the fact that media invariably dig up clues of scandals and even make up some to sustain or to catalyze the circulation leads to violation of privacy. And what is ironic is that a growing number of actors have an inclination to gain public concerns by their own love affairs.

Aside with the foregoing provisos, generally speaking, many scandals disclose the hidden sides in our society by presenting concrete events instead of clichés of speakers or reformers. For example, the “black whistle” in soccer matches and the incitant event reveal unfair competition in athletic games. For another example, cheat occurring in recruiting students reflects the misuse of authority among pertinent administrators. In a not dissimilar way, the “black account” in economics, the “fake news” in media, the plagiarism in academia and the bribery in politics are respectively pointing to the misfeasance in relevant industry. However, the speakers or reformers tend to tell the public something should be done without convincing facts. As a result, these scandals to some extent arouse the public attention and then consideration in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

Turning our attention to the issue a scandal talks about, we tend to feel shocked and disappointed, and then we cannot help but to reflect on ourselves and even to identify its real cause. As the government or the person involved, it could not ignore the strong appeal or attitude from the public even in the absence of pressures from media. A instance that accompanies this point is that the U. S. government established a special group to investigate the breach of duty of some department and individuals in the “911”event and opened the results to the public in paper. As an aftereffect, the government not only returned a truth and justice to the Americans, but strengthened the administration. Therefore, sometimes along with the guilty scandals are alarm, reconsideration and correction besides guilt.

Simply put, all the analysis presented above leads me to conclude that scandals-whether in politics, academia, or other areas-can be useful and they draw our attention on problems in special ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.
