Issue 128:”it is often asserted that the purpose of education is to free the mind and the spirit.In reality ,however ,formal education tends to restrain our minds and spirits rather than set them free”

The speaker asserts that formal education tends to restrain our minds and spirits rather than set them free,which is against the fundamental purpose of education.I agree with the speaker in that despite one or two benefits of formal education,it is ridigity that has to a large extent debilitated our students.
  In my opinion,education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one,which could help us become autonomous, creative, and inquiring people who have the will and intelligence to create our own destiny.But unfortunately,the purpose is largely distorted by the traditional education .We have become slaves of traditional education rather than the masters of our studies. We pass an examination to enter a school and pass a larger one to leave the school,not to mention the many hundred examination we have to pass to get enough grades so as to be allowed to go on recieving that frighteningly formal education.In order to pass those examinations ,we have to do all that is assigned to us,obeying demands of teachers and following directions on the books. Confronted with so vital a task , we regard our “teacher” as God and our “textbook” Bible.So throughout the the many years, we are merely mentally and spiritally enslaved by formal education,and then lose the our creativity gradually ,not to mention that we will have the nerve and time to think of having our minds and spirits freed.
  Although formal education does many harms to our students,we should admitted some merits with it,especially with regard to its contribution to our basic knowledge of science .For example,some basic formulations of mathematics have been remembered permenantly by us because they are used in nearlly all that exams .Moreover,formal education has provided us a mode of teaching which is suitable for the students who are incapable of regulating their studies.Different kinds of education fit different sorts of students.Maybe a naughty student is more suitable for the formal education.
    The world today is in great demand of people who have an open mind as well as a free spirit,which cannot be provided by formal education .To achieve that ,we still have a long way to go.
