In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

With the development of technology, watching television has become an important tool to get knowledge. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.  Sometimes watching television even provides more comprehensive and profound understanding than reading books. However it does not mean that reading books is not as important as it once was.

Admittedly, in the age of television we can learn much knowledge and information by watching television. As television spread, it is easier to learn knowledge than before. Now we can know what happened yesterday through the world by watching television's News channels, which provide convenient and rapid information. We can enjoy many wonderful places of other countries, which we have not been, by watching tourism channels, and even know customs of other countries. In addition, TV colleges have recently emerged, and it is unnecessary to go to college for learning knowledge sometimes, and the knowledge was gotten from colleges and universities before. Television has given us much convenience to learn and become a tool to acquire knowledge. Through television we can feel the pulse of society.

However, compared with watching television, reading books have irreplaceable position. For long time reading books has played a vital role to learn, and people have been used to read books. People are used to read and make some marks wherever they need in the books, but it is impossible to make marks in television. Now in the age of television, the technology of television has been solved. However many universities and colleges have been making use of reading books to study and research, watching television just is an auxiliary tool. In addition, because of colorful programs in television, it is easy to waste time by watching television for people. As well known, television has emerged as a main way of recreation. When people are tired of learning, they will watch other programs for recreation. Thus it is often to forget time, and waste much time. Though watching television can learn knowledge, it is less efficient than reading books.

Furthermore, reading books can provide more time to think. It is convenient to switch channels to have a recreation when people are tired during watching television to learn, so it provides little time to think further. However it is an important progress to think after learning. Chinese sayings: people are inclined to confuse if not think after learning. Therefore we can know how important thinking is. By reading books to learn, people can stop to think whenever they need. But because television cannot stop in time, even you can make television into video, the possibility that you lose forget doubtful points during learning is more than by reading books.

In sum, although watching television provides us many fresh feelings and new information in time, it just becomes an auxiliary way for learning. And reading books is still the most important tool for studying.
