Issue 169 让砖头来得更猛烈些吧!
Those who treat politics and morality as though they were separate realms fail to understand either the one or the other.
------正文------
Should politics and morality be treated as they are separate and exclusive? Those who hold such opinion fails to recognize the inner relationship between them. Politics, which means not only political activities characterized by artful and often dishonest practices, but also the art or science to concerned with guiding or influencing govermental policies and , should not be narrowly defined and should not be totally separated from the conception of morality.
When people mention morality and politics together, they are meaning at the generalized morality, the morality both in politics and in daily life, rather than merely being honest, candid, polite and generous when communicating, working and living with others. Morality is a fundamental factor of constructing a society, in which politics, as well as other realms, are all superstructures. The whole universe of human beings’ behaviors, should be based on the precondition that what everyone does is out of morality and the criminous ones will be castigated by the rest or the public will lose confidence to ministerial party. Only in this way can our society keep its regularity. On this condition, politicians should also be shrewd enough to dealing with different situation and various people. Such rhetoric will do no harm to society and is especially necessary in governmental affairs.
Second, different politicians, as well as distinct individuals, have diversified comprehensions of morality, because it is a relative term. Some politician's act may be beneficial to one nation or more, but immoral to citizens living in other nations. A case in point is that politic leaders in some developed countries believe it is reasonable to dump garbage to developing countries. They maintain the idea that like other trades, dumping garbage is merely a sort of commerce. Such act is salutary to citizens living in developing countries currently in that people will no longer have to worry about the disposing of garbage, and can spare much more free land for agriculture, industry and economics. However, it is terribly unfair the people who are living in developing countries, because what they are importing has no benefit to them and will ultimately restrain the advancement of their motherland. What is more, it is unfair to the offspring of all human beings before a better solution for garbage is found. In these cases, the politicians are treating their citizens with morality, but this sort of morality, or rather benefit, is far too short sighted and narrow minded.
However, there are also circumstances in which politics and morality are poles apart. For example, many feudatorial leaders fails to realize that it is citizens who authorize their leaderships.
To sum up, morality is the basic of all superstructures, including politics; politics endue morality with innovate meanings. Good politicians are capable of keeping both of them in balance. |
