------题目------
The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
------正文------
Could the greatness of individuals be decided only by those who live after them as the speaker asserts? I agree with the speaker insofar as  in some areas, particularly natural sciences and arts, the innovative ideas are not acceptable for people in their time. However, in other areas that are directly relevant to people's daily lives, such as business, the greatness is easier to be identified.

First of all, some great people with talents, especially in arts, went so far ahead of their time, while their contemporaries limited by their abilities can not comprehend the creation and works in literature, music or painting. Consider Van Gogh, whose style of painting was entirely new to his time. Throughout his life he sold only one of his paintings. It is not until his death did people began to appreciate the expressionism he used and realized the beauty and significance of his painting. After all, ordinary people do not have the genius a genius has. Therefore, it takes years, even centuries for people to accept the new thoughts and fully understand the creations.

Second, in natural science, theories are also not accepted immediately because usually nothing but time can test its validity. Since science is base on experiments and facts- nothing that contradicts facts should be correct, scientists have to put the theory into practice in order to confirm it truth. Copernicus's theory that the earth and other planets revolt around the sun is a case in point. It took over a hundred years for scientists to warrant its truth and then discover its importance in physics. Einstein was lucky that his theory of Relativity was proved by his followers soon after he generated it. Yet his theory about the Gravity is still open to doubt. Only future generation may prove it.

Nevertheless, when it comes to the realms connecting people's lives, the greatness of one's achievement is often rather obvious. In a large sense, one who is able to extremely improve the living standard of the society is highly praised and treated the hero of the time. Thomas Edison is such a hero. He invented electric light bulb, record players, and motion pictures, which brought the world light, music and film. Because of the great improvement of quality of life resulted from these inventions, Edison's greatness was recognize by the society broadly; Edison soon received awards and honors from many countries. Similarly, no one in the contemporary society can deny the greatness of Bill Gates in business due to his contributions to the computer industry and the economy of the whole American. Both the attainments of Edison and Gates have so remarkably influence our daily lives, that it is almost impossible to be blind to their greatness.

In the final analysis, while in arts and science, great individual's greatness may not be recognized until a long period of time, people may identify the greatness in some other field of contemporary world.

I agree with the speaker insofar as in some areas, particularly natural sciences and arts, the innovative ideas are not acceptable for people in their time. However, in other areas that are directly relevant to people's daily lives, such as business, the greatness is easier to be identified.

Good beginning with clear position.

First of all, some great people with talents, especially in arts, went so far ahead of their time, while their contemporaries limited by their abilities can not comprehend the creation and works in literature, music or painting.(I think the “,while” may should change to “that”),  Consider Van Gogh, whose style of painting was entirely new(advanced) to his time. Throughout his life he sold only one of his paintings. It is not until his death did people began to appreciate the expressionism he used and realized the beauty and significance of his painting. After all, ordinary people do not have the genius a genius has. Therefore, it takes years, even centuries for people to accept the new thoughts and fully understand the creations.(too absolute. One example cannot necessarily represent the whole.)

Excellent language and well-chosen example. But I’m afraid the last sentence spoiled the whole paragraph. You make a mistake of absolutization.

Excellent demonstration.

Nevertheless, when it comes to the realms connecting people's lives, the greatness of one's achievement is often rather obvious. In a large sense, one who is able to extremely improve the living standard of the society is highly praised and treated (honored ) the hero of the time. Thomas Edison is such a hero. He invented electric light bulb, record players, and motion pictures, which brought the world light, music and film. Because of the great improvement of quality of life resulted from these inventions, Edison's greatness was recognize(d) by the society broadly; Edison soon received awards and honors from many countries. Similarly, no one in the contemporary society can deny the greatness of Bill Gates in business due to his contributions to the computer industry and the economy of the whole American. Both the attainments of Edison and Gates have so remarkably influence our daily lives, that it is almost impossible to be blind to their greatness.

Well-chosen example and good demonstration.

In the final analysis, while in arts and science, great individual's greatness may not be recognized until a long period of time, people may identify the greatness in some other field of contemporary world.

Succinct conclusion.

Generally speaking, I admire your composition very much. You have exhibited an excellent(I’m sorry, I cannot find other words to properly express my admiring. :o ) example demonstration, and I believe this composition will win good score. I sincerely invite you to give my essay some suggestion and I hope to learn more from you.

-----题目------
The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
------正文------
Can the greatness of individuals be recognized only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries? In my point of view, this claim is justifiable for the following reasons.

One of the reasons is that society is going ahead with the time flowing. In one hand, with knowledge accumulated, people understand and comprehend matters more intensively or lucidly, consequently, the progeniture could qualify to evaluate the greatness in more extent. In the other hand, more and more problems of the predecessor could be found by the offspring, as a result, so-called “greatness” could be clarified by posterity. For example, the principle of relativity, establish by Einstein, replace the concept of absolute frame of reference put forward by Newton in the physics. As a result of the human going ahead, the ken of people is broadened and more verities could be attained. By this token, people live subsequently might see the greatness more clearly.

Second, contemporaries’ reflection always confined in an invisible circle by the prevailing notion. People usually accustom to accept rather than doubt even refute. At the same time, the giant always hold advanced even “incredible” views in the eyes of contemporary ordinary people. Consequently, the giant were always looked down upon by the contemporaries. For example, Vincent Van Gogh, the representative of terminal impressionist, disregard the academic doctrine and spurn the acquired knowledge, did not accept by his contemporaries, however, approved to be a great artist after his death. Holding the fixed idea that writing or painting should be in reality, contemporaries did not admit Van Gogh. In a word, the progeny’s estimation could avoid these limitations.

In addition, time is always the criterion to verify the truth and greatness. The blemish of some inventions cannot be discovered by contemporaries in short time. It is indispensable to take a long time to verify the truth or greatness. Consider, for example, the insecticide 666, during its prophase, which is of full of merits in the eyes of contemporaries, in the end, it proved to threat the healthy of people. Actually, a multiply kinds of inventions have flaws which might hardly be demonstrated at the beginning of applying to market. However, with the time lapsing, more and more problems could appear due to take into effect in a large compass. By this token, progeniture have connatural advantages compared with the contemporaries.

Admittedly, the greatness of the individuals can be recognized by the people live after them for the above reasons. However, I also hope that contemporaries could try their best to see the issue more clearly and admit the true greatness early.
