------题目------
The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
------正文------
Who can decide the greatness of individuals, the people who live after them or their contemporaties? At first glance, it seems very difficult for us to draw a definite conclusion, since everything has two sides. However, as far as I am concerned, the greatness of individuals can mainly be decided by those who live after them. The reasons will be listed as follows.

In the first place, generally speaking, the great individulas cannot be appreciated by their contemporaries becuase of their outstanding thoughts and transcendental talent which surpass the common cognition of the general society and people. The greatness of the great individuals is his/her thoughts which is different from the majority of the society. Only with these different thought, these great man could accomplish great success. For example, Albert Einstein, one of the most famous scientist in 20th century, has an outstanding talent which surpass the time. His great contribution, the relativity theory, was not understanded by the almost all people who lived in his contemporaries and of couse not evaluated objectively and fairly. If you do not understand one thing, how could you evaluate it? Only after many years of his death could the society gradually recognize the greatness of his theory and begin to realize the time and the universe with his theory.

In the second place, to testify the validity of their thoughts or theories, the society need a long time even centuries. As we has said above, the thoughts and theories of the great men always surpass the time, so it is difficut for the major society to justify whether these thoughts are right or wrong. Some inventions or new discoveries may seem hareful for people and the society, but after a long time, it may finally benefit us. The nuclear energy is a good example that is very persuasive, the first use of nuclear enery is nuclear bomb, a powerful weapon which could lead to extermination of the human beings. After several years, as the building of nuclear power plants, human beings could make use of the energy peacefully, and the fact has prove that it is a validated method to solve the energy problem.

Last but not least, those who live after the great individuals could evaluate their work objective, not be interfered by the mainstream thoughts of their contemporary society and the authorities. The contemporary of the great individuals often was affected by the standards and mainstream thoughs of the society. In this condition, they usually can not evaluate the greatness of the great man, which was alway beyond the society, even destroy the existing theories or standards. Take the art as an example, almost all new type of a literature would be doubted even criticized drastically by the contemporarites, only after many years, the society could realize their valueness and finally give fairly evaluation about it.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may arrive at the conclusion that the greatness of individuals can mainly be decided by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries. Generally speaking, these conclusion are often more objective and persuadable.[/SIZE]
