Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.

――正文――
In recent years, people are more and more puzzled when they confront such question that whether scandals can be useful. Some protestors would like to say scandals which provided the negative side of individuals or communities to this society are harmful. As far as i am concerned, i agree with the author's opinion that scandals can be useful and helpful in the development of individuals or societies. Here are the reasons for my standpoint.

In the first place, scandals can bring pressure to drive an individual involved in it to make progress to get rid of such pressure. When an individual's scandals are presented to the masses, people will blame him for his ill-behaviors, no matter he is famous or not. Under such moral pressure, he often want to develop himself to be reaccepted by the public. Otherwise, he will be isolated by people because of his dirty scandals. We can look no further than Clinton's sex scandal to prove that. Bill Clinton, a former American president, once had an illegal sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky, an official in White House. Due to his sex scandal, Bill was required to resign by the public, blamed by his wife and daughter, isolated by his Party. In one word, he was in such a bad situation that it seems he lose everything overnight! But, after his confessing and apologizing, he gradually changed his image through some social activities helpful for the society such as giving speech in colleges. In this respect, scandals, to some extent, can drive people involved in them become better and better.

In the second place, scandals can help people review their existing regulations or laws to make this society more stable and healthy. Some people make scandals through taking advantage of weakness of laws or regulations. After people are aware of this kind of scandals, they will do something to improve such laws or regulations as to prevent those scandals in the next time. Bribe is the case in point. In the early age of HongKong, bribe was so popular that even the Police were involved in it. Both people and the society in that age suffered a lot because of it. Fortunately, people knew this problem in time and built a new department---ICAC to deal with such scandals specially. Then, the society recovered, people had a new promising era. Even now, ICAC plays an significant role in HongKong's  prosperity.  

Admittedly, scandals are dirty, bad things. They show people the dark side in this society and bring people disappointment. But they can still be useful depending on people's attitude. When scandals happens, what we should do? Blame those people involved in them? Cry that this society is disappointing without dong nothing? Or rethink about the
scandals to find why they happened, how to prevent them in the future to help both people and the society never suffer for them? The answer is surly that we, the masters of the society, should be objective to scandals, should learn something useful from them, should do some positive things to kill them. Then, scandals will be useful and helpful.

In sum, scandals can be useful not only for individuals but also for societies, which depends on our attitude. We should make use of scandals' influence in the public to help us become much stronger, to help this world be much healthier.
