------题目------
The following appeared in a memo from Grocery Town's regional manager.
'The new Grocery Town store in Elm City, located near a new residential development, has a 'high-low' pricing policy where average prices are relatively high, but deep discounts are offered on some items in weekly specials. This store has been showing increased profits every month as the nearby residential development gets closer to full capacity. It follows that people prefer a pricing policy where they can find bargains on specific items. Since there is a new residential development planned in Oak City, we should change the pricing policy at all of our Oak City stores from our current 'everyday low prices' policy to a 'high-low' policy. This will increase the profits at all of our stores in Oak City.'
------正文------
In this memo, the manager recommends that all of their stores in Oak City adopt the 'high-low' pricing policy to increase their profits. The first glance at this recommendation sounds that it may be profitable for what have had succeeded in Elm City. However, with close scrutiny of this memo, I find that the manager has made a false analogy with insufficient and dubious evidence.

First of all, the manager unfairly assumes that the consuming and pricing levels between Elm City and Oak City are the same, resulting in, which seems soundly to the manager, the similar increasing profits in Oak City as well. However, there is a probability that the average income in Elm City is higher than that in Oak City, enabling the residents there to afford high prices in the Grocery Town stores. Or, perhaps, the prices in Elm City are originally high while the prices in the Grocery Town store are relatively somewhat lower compared with others. If under these backgrounds, the profits should have increased undoubtedly. Thus, as the manager ignores these possibilities, this argument cannot convince us as it stands.

Moreover, only from the fact that the increasing profits in the Elm City, which the manager's argument rests on, the statement that people prefer bargains on specific items is suspect. The manager overlooks that the increasing profits come out not only from specific items, but from the average ones as well. Additionally, without more statistics, I cannot draw out that the profits are mainly from the specific items, which can make the people prefer the policy, in that most of them might come from the average ones. In this case, the manager's conclusion that people prefer the policy that they can find bargains on specific items is unjustifiable. Hence, this evidence cannot support the recommendation strongly.

On the other hand, the author makes a false analogy between Elm City and Oak City. Even if the 'high-low' pricing policy is popular and successful in Elm City, there is no evidence to support that this policy will have the same rewards in Oak City as well. Not only the differences, which has been stated above, lie between the consuming and pricing levels, but also the rate of the resident in the Oak City. Though the manager cites that there is also a new residential development planned in Oak City, no statistics have shown that many people are willing to reside there. If so, the stores in Oak City may be unprofitable, or even be closed.

Even if the stores in the residential areas are profitable as those in Elm City, but the manager's recommendation that all the stores in Oak City should adopt this policy is dubious. The manager overlooks the possibility that different areas will have different conditions, even in the same city. For example, if one store locates near the industrial areas, where have many factories and are off on weekends, the policy that provide specific items on bargains is useless. Thus, without sufficient evidence, there is no assurance that this policy will make all the stores profitable.

In sum, the recommendation is not logically convincing as the manager cites. To strengthen it, the manager should provide more concrete comparisons between the two cities on economic aspects and the more specific analysis on the resources of the profits. To better assess this argument, I would also need to know that whether this policy is suitable to all the stores in Oak City.

In this memo, the manager recommends that all of their stores in Oak City adopt the 'high-low' pricing policy to increase their profits. The first glance at this recommendation sounds 前边The first glance 后边sounds 好像感觉不太好that it may be profitable for what have had succeeded in Elm City. Or, perhaps, the prices in Elm City are originally high while the prices in the Grocery Town store are relatively somewhat lower compared with others. If under these backgrounds, the profits should have increased undoubtedly.是哪的profits增长?如果Elm City,后边要不要说清Oak City不一定会增长,如果是Oak City增长,好像作者的提议也行得通啊 Thus, as the manager ignores these possibilities, this argument cannot convince us as it stands.

Moreover, only from the fact that the increasing profits in the Elm City, which the manager's argument rests on, the statement that people prefer bargains on specific items is suspect. The manager overlooks that the increasing profits come out not only from specific items, but from the average ones as well. Additionally,这个要加吗?意思好像是顺着前边的,忽视了其它average ones,所以没有more statistics就不能得到from specific items的结论 without more statistics, I cannot draw out that the profits are mainly from the specific items, which can make the people prefer the policy, in that most of them might come from the average ones. In this case, the manager's conclusion that people prefer the policy that they can find bargains on specific items is unjustifiable. Hence, this evidence cannot support the recommendation strongly.

In this memo, the manager recommends that all of their stores in Oak City adopt the 'high-low' pricing policy to increase their profits. The first glance at this recommendation sounds(sounds  的主语是什么?glance??) that it may be profitable for what have had succeeded in Elm City.(这句语法有问题) However, with close scrutiny of this memo, I find that the manager has made a false analogy with insufficient and dubious evidence.(just one???)

First of all, the manager unfairly assumes that the consuming (消费水平是这样说吗??/??)and pricing levels between Elm City and Oak City are the same, resulting in, which seems soundly(sound) to the manager, the similar increasing profits in Oak City as well. (这句不和逻辑)Thus, as the manager ignores these possibilities, this argument cannot convince us as it stands.

Moreover, only from the fact that the increasing profits in the Elm City, which the manager's argument rests on, the statement that people prefer bargains on specific items is suspect. The manager overlooks that the increasing profits come out not only from specific items, but from the average ones( one 代表什么??) as well. Additionally, without more statistics, I cannot draw out that the profits are mainly from the specific items, which can make the people prefer the policy, in that most of them might come from the average ones. (这句和前面重复了吧?)In this case, the manager's conclusion that people prefer the policy that they can find bargains on specific items is unjustifiable. Hence, this evidence cannot support the recommendation strongly. 这段有些乱了, 应该把盈利和消费的关系说清楚, 赢利可能不是在降价的项目中获得的,而是来自其他项目,这就意味着消费者并没有因为降价就倾向于购买

On the other hand,(where is the “on the one hand”) the author makes a false analogy between Elm City and Oak City. Even if the 'high-low' pricing policy is popular and successful in Elm City, there is no evidence to support that this policy will have the same rewards in Oak City as well. Not only the differences, which has been stated above, lie between the consuming and pricing levels, but also the rate of the resident in the Oak City.
