Do arts, such as painting, music, literature, reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society, as the speaker stated? At personal level, I agree with him considering the nature characters of arts and amount of examples about the effect of arts on exposing the innermost being of our society.

Arts, according to their natural attributes, are bound to be a perfect vessel in the progress of revealing our society. On one hand, during the span of human history, arts always derive from the masses who were always plunging into the society and could understand it most incisively. Therefore it can embody the everyday life of all classes and portray the characters of all social strata. On the other hand, arts can spread quickly and conveniently in the prehistoric society as well as the modern cities. Our ancestors had their oral artistic form, which could be passed one generation to another through mother to daughter, elder to younger. And when it comes to the information time, the global media and internet obviously serve as more efficiency methods for the arts' transmitting. Nowadays, we can easily appreciate artifacts at the highest level from all over the world by searching on the WebPages or switching to some certain channels. Thus arts functions to expose the core of a society since it can be easily expressed to the public through the river of history and unfettered by the geographical limitation.

In the aspect of revealing the hidden ideas of a society, arts always have their superiority over other disciplines, such as science or politics. The existence of arts in some extent can be ascribed to the desire of human beings to visualize something invisible happened in their life. In the realm of paintings, the fame of a painting is never merely due to its original perspective or the perfect use of techniques. The most heart-warming thing in it must be the hidden ideas it expressed, including the social emotion and the individual views about the world around the artist. In the realm of literature where this tendency is more appreciable, the success of both writers and masterpieces can attribute to the hidden ideas they involved on which their true value depended. Therefore, through the variety forms of arts, artists endeavor to express the concealed thing of our society in order to achieve success. Unlike science, arts need not to think about the problem about keeping objective; unlike politics, arts device from nonutilitarian purpose and therefore are hardly driven by some specific groups holding their own interest.

Arts also play significant roles in the expression of the impulses of a society. Popular arts can serves as a good example. For supporting this example one need to go no further than a television set in which there are full of popular music, modern movies and avant-garde theater pieces produced by the youth or trying to cater for them. Such kinds of arts give the youth by whom the future of our society determined a chance to express their thoughts and nature to the conservative world and bring it their fresh ideas as well as vogue.
