------正文------
Why, you may wonder, is the beginner more likely than the expert to make important discoveries in any field of inquiry? Retrospect to the history of science and technology, we can not only find countless examples that the beginner makes some important discoveries but also know many talented people who make great contributions when they are expert in their research area. As far as I am concerned, both the beginner and the expert can make important discoveries. The most significant factor to attain these is the individual personality such as persistence, diligence, and so on.
To begin with, important discoveries are usually attained by the beginner. When the beginner just starts to do research in a certain field, they know little about the traditional experiences and knowledge, hence, they will not be easily confined or tied by those old theories. That is to say that they may create some new ways with individual ideas, sometimes, they will make some innovations and discoveries. For example, Nash, who won the Nobel Prize for economic, discovered the existence of Nash Equilibrium. When he was just an undergraduate in Princeton University, without too much knowledge and experiences, he thought in his own way and showed great interest to the equilibrium in the economics, Then, he developed an equilibrium concept for non-cooperative games which later be called Nash equilibrium. Hence, though the beginner without ample special skills and learning, he/she can make creations and discoveries.
Moreover, it is also a fact that the expert with sufficient knowledge and experiences make important discoveries. The expert has more widely minds and ample knowledge than the beginner in his/her research area. These precious experiences supply expert a foundation and plat roof to make discoveries. Take Newton for instance, he made a great number of discoveries including the theory of gravity and Newton-principle. These discoveries are based on his widely research including math, calculus, physics, and so on. Without those ample knowledge, it is impossible to for him to make so many discoveries.
Finally, from the analysis above we can see that both the beginner and the expert have chance to discover. However, the most important factor to decide whether he/she can succeed is good personality such as creation spirit, persistence, diligence. Provided that Nash did not break the traditional research ways, Newton did not work hard or give up when they met with difficulties, neither of them would attain any achievements.
To sum up, in any field of inquiry, I have to admit that whatever the beginner or the expert he/she is, they can have the opportunity to attain important discoveries. However, the most significant factor to achieve this success is attributable to the individual personality. Only owning some good characters such as persistence, diligence can the beginner and the expert make discoveries. |
