"It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
As time goes, art develops along with the road through which we human being come to present, from the frescos in ancient caves to the superrealism pictures nowadays. In this process, who gives the society this kind of lasting value, the artists, or the critics? In my opinion, both artist and critic contribute to this process, and further more, their interaction with each other also does a partplay a part in making the art lasting.
There is no doubt that artist gives the society something of lasting value, since they are the creator of those fine art works. Without the continuous works coming out before our eyes, the art may even cannot survive for a single second. Art works firstly are presentingpresent of the natural events and social life. From the frescos in ancient caves which portraiting the hunting life of the prehistoric people, to superrealistic paintings which show the great mischief brought about by wars and poverty, the art lasts and flourish as it serves to present the way people are living and society are progressing. Time is stepping forward fast, things are changing everyday, and along the course, the artists devote themselves to the creating of art works which are trying to show some aspects of the human society. With these artists, the function of art as presenting the world continues, and people can see something lasted from the ancient to modern time. Without those artists, there can even be no art works, let alone providing the society something of lasting value.
At the same time, the role of such critics are playing cannot be overlooked. Their function is the counterpart in the progress of art. While artists are trying their best to keep the function of art as a means of presenting the reality sustained, the critics are also working hard to find more values behind the works of those artists which otherwise may be hidden by the course of time. While most of the readers are focusing their attention to how love is flourishing between Elizebath and Darcy, the heroine and hero in Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice, the critics are attach equal importance to the other four marriages appear in the same novel and even more to the social background of the author's time and information concerning about the author herself. Through careful examing these and other aspects, this great novel is regarded as not only showing the marriages in the common people who livinglive in the countryside in the 18 century's England, but also demonstrating换个词吧? put forth?present? a situation that women's social status was low and they were appealing to equality in the process of marriage with those men who possess a fortune. Without the work of the critics, this distinguished novel may otherwise be regarded as a normal one which addicted in the topic of love and consequently forgotten by the mass people. Thus the critics dig out something in the works of the artists which can survive the steps of history.
What's more, no single part, say the artists, or the critics, can give the society something of lasting value rely solely on their own effort. Their interaction with each other makes the art lasting. While the artists created some works on the basis of which the critics can find extra meaning of them besides the original function of art as depicting the society, the comments from those critics are indispensable for people to appreciate those works and for the artists to develop more skills for better presenting the society. This process acts as rolling a snowball, the interaction of the artists and critics makes the art flourishes and last.
In sum, as to give the society something of lasting value, the artists and the critics all do their own part to achieve this goal. Further more, the interaction between them plays a important role too. The artists begin with the footstones, the critics work to consolidate them, and then the artists will step higher, and the art never stops its steps, a trend which will probably last forever.
谈了艺术家和评论家对一部作品以及他们的interaction不被历史遗忘的作用,,但似乎对于society提的不够,到底give society 什么value?个人意见,欢迎讨论 |
