------题目------
The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
------正文------
The statement above displays a sosuch an absolute projection that I can hardly agree with. The greatness of individuals can be defined as their contributions to the society. I argue that People living in a later time cannot necessarily evaluate one's greatness objectively; and contemporaries not always have no ability to judge a person's prominence.
People holding the idea above may get the conclusion by this standard: the greatness of an individual, usually tremendously splendid in one's field, always transcend one's time and contemporaries' savvy. Such standard indeed have its realistic base in that there are a multitude of great people-----artists, scientists, politicspoliticians, etc---- in the history do not obtain the acceptation and respect of their respective times. After a long time, their greatness is discovered by the later people when the science and technology develop to an extent onby which people can give objective and impartial assessment. For example, van Gogh, a great artist in the history, lived a poor life all his time. He has drawn many precious pictures which gained universal praise nowadays; however, none of these pictures can be sold out to support van Gogh’s basically material life. The only one he sold was bought by his brother who just wanted to comfort him. In this sense, it seems the statement really has some meaningmakes sense somehow.accepatation是意义的意思,接受的名词应该是 acceptance,这段论述感觉还可以
However, just from the case displayed above, one cannot conclude that individuals' greatness can be decided by people who live after them rather than their contemporaries. One reason is that such cases are not always the reality. Some people engaging in the profession which provide popular service for his contemporaries, or some relatively not so complex fields, can easily get their social group’s acceptationacceptance. The god of Microsoft ware, Bill Gates, is just the case in point. It is widely accepted that Bill Gates have made enormous contribution to people's modern convenient lives for the designation and production of various computers.BILL GATES 在伟大在于 SOFTWARES 不是COMPUTERS His greatness has been evaluated objectively in this era, by his contemporaries, and this case seems unchangeable as time goes on.
Moreover, offspring cannot necessarily give an objective estimation to their predecessors. They are quite likely to judge their predecessors via their value standard which is only proper in their time, ignoring the special background and circumstance of their progenitors. Such deduction is really dubious on its haste and improper reasoning method. For instance, people always abuse Wu Zetian, the only woman emperor in the history of China, a cruel controller because she killed many personspeople, including her sons, in the way she approached the highest position of the country. However, they always ignore that in that situation (women were always despised in all aspects), a woman politicfemale politician desiring to realize her political dream must devote nearly all she had. Considering such special background, people may give a relatively more objective evaluation to Wu Zetian other than cruelty.最后一句并没有强调你要论证的观点
Also, only through various documents and datum of history can later people make their judgment toon? their predecessor’s greatness, but whether these history documents are complete and actual is another question which must be taken into consideration. If these data cannot reflect the reality of a person, in no way can posterity render an objective evaluation. On the other hand, the great people's contemporaries, holding exact data of these persons, are more likely give out a comprehensive judgment through careful investigation and analysis.
Generally speaking, people's greatness not only can be judged by their offspring, but also by their contemporaries. Who can give a more objective evaluation is based on the exactness of data people have and whether they give full consideration of the great people's special circumstance and background.总体感觉论述比较充分,例子也丰富,角度比较多,语言上的细枝末节需要加强。我也写了36,可是写出来连字数都有问题,干巴巴的,要向你学习 |
