144. "It is the artist, not the critic,* who gives society something of lasting value."
*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

例子:布莱克,卡夫卡的作品是被批评家从尘堆中发掘出来的;
“野兽派”“立体派”的命名对这些作品特质的巨大影响,
今天,这些作品已和这些“标签”深深结合而不可分割
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the great role the critic plays in the discovery, introduction and
refining of the value of the arts, I can not accept the view above at all. Rather than the unilateral perspective maybe some people take on, I would rather confirm and agree this point: it is critic in company with artist who gives our society something of lasting value, the division and preconception of them in our judgment is not candid and sound indeed.

Undeniably, it is our artist, not critic, who gives birth to every art work. And just for their specialness of the born characteristic, eventually great art works were accepted by society as something of lasting value. Vinci created the " Mona Lisa ",of which the unique beauty and mystery will be an eternal topic for the people later . And nowadays, which we honor as a classics with great profundity of history and philosophy, the "Don Quixote", belongs to the creation of Cervantes. We owe them much gratitude for their precious presents for our spirit dinner.

However, it is just the more knowledge of the background of the "Don Quixote": how does it become so acceptable in history ,that turns me to the more objective attitude I announced at the beginning. When the saga novel was published, it was considered no more than a farce at all. Nevertheless, about 100 years later, it had been praised as we evaluate today. From where was the great conversion stemming? One may say the conversion was attributed to the author, the creator of the character of the work.It is true indeed, however, there was another basilic cause hidden in history, and there was ,the critic. In fact, it should also be attributed to the critics who achieved the increment of the work, such as Byron and Heine. It was their creative critique that enriched the connotation of the work, which lead us a new reading reflection of Don Quixote's story distinct from the people's at Saimantisis time. Nowadays, what we see is no longer a buffoon with unrealistic fantasy, but a hero with advanced consciousness rejected by the society. And we do not rigidly adhere to the incredible plot of the story any more, we begin to realize it was the corruption of the society that made our hero with great character of faithfulness, integrity, and nobility a scoff by those people. Therefore, just as Oscar Wilde pointed out in his "Critics as Artists"(and I paraphrase): critique is crucial to art, for its understanding, its conversation, and its promotion of art.

Turn our view back to the modern art works we can touch in everyday life, we will find out that critique appears even more important to the forming of these work's value. In fact, sometimes the attention of the critic even became the ticket for a modern art work entering the door of history. The great work, such as the poems of William Blake, the novels of Franz Kafka, are all dug out from heavy dust by creative critique. As for Louis Vanxellls' labels of "fauvism" and "cubism", we can still tell how direct affection the unique naming had made during our evaluation of these works today. For the later people, the naming represents some intrinsic character of these works. In some way, the label has turned into the inalienable part of the lasting value of such works.

Permit me to conclude my words as following way: it is the artist who gestates and gives birth to art; it is the critic who fosters art ,and endues the life of art with more meaning and value. From theirs hands, we acquire the rarity present of lasting value.

to pringle
1)

3) increment

4) a scoff by those people 是宾语后置阿

to Madhero

For the great role the critic plays in the discovery, introduction and
refining of the value of the arts, I can not accept the view above at all. Rather than the unilateral perspective maybe some people take on, I would rather confirm and agree this point: it is critic in company with artist who应该用that 吧 强调句型 gives our society something of lasting value, 两句的衔接上似乎有问题,或者可以将,改为。或; the division and preconception of them in our judgment应该指明题目中的观点是有偏见点吧,our judgment 不太明确 is not candid and sound indeed.

We owe them much gratitude for their precious presents for our spirit dinner.

However, it is just the more??为什么用more knowledge of the background of the "Don Quixote": how是不是应该大写 does it become so acceptable in history ?, that turns me to the more objective attitude I announced at the beginning. When the saga novel was published, it was considered no more than a farce at all. Nevertheless, about 100 years later, it had been praised as we evaluate today. From where was the great conversion stemming?

For the great role the critics play in the discovery, introduction and refining of the value of the arts, I can not accept the view above at all. Rather than the unilateral perspective some people may take on, I would rather confirm and agree on this point: it is critic in company with artist that gives our society something of lasting value, the division and preconception of them in our judgment is not candid and sound indeed.

Undeniably, it is our artist, not critic, who gives birth to every art work. And just for its specialness of the born characteristic, eventually great art works were accepted by society as something of lasting value. Vinci created the "Mona Lisa ", whose beauty and mystery will be appreciated by people forever. And "Don Quixote", honored as a classic with great profundity of history and philosophy nowadays, belongs to the creation of Cervantes. We owe them much gratitude for their precious presents for our spirit regalement.

However, the more knowledge of the background of the "Don Quixote": how does it become so acceptable in history, turns me to the more objective attitude I announced at the beginning. When it was published, it was considered no more than a farce at all. Nevertheless, 100 years later, it had been praised as we evaluate today. Though the conversion should be attributed to the author, it should also be attributed to the critics who achieved the increment of the work, such as Byron and Heine. It is their creative critique enrichs the connotation of the work, leads us a new reading reflection of Don Quixote's story distinct from that of people's at Cervantes’ time.

Especially to modern art, critique appears more and more important. In fact, sometimes the attention of the critics even became a ticket for an art work to enter the door of history. The great work, such as the poems of William Blake, the novels of Franz Kafka, are all dug out from heavy dust by creative critique. As for Louis Vanxellls' labels of "fauvism" and "cubism", we can still tell how direct affection the unique naming makes during our evaluation of these workes today. For the later people, the naming represents some intrinsic character of these works. In some way, the label has turned into the inalienable part of the lasting value of such works.

Permit me to conclude my words in following way: it is the artist who gestates and gives birth to art; it is the critic who fosters art, and endues the life of art with more meaning and value. From their hands, we acquire the rare present of lasting value.

A the distinguished works of art such as sculptures, novels, films, music, paintings are to some extent products of the inspiration of artists, which express the emotion and imagination of workers.
B Critic will refrain artists from working creatively.
C of course, artists such as directors of films can benefit from critic who is familiar with a particular.
