------题目------
What most human beings really want to attain is not knowledge, but certainty. Gaining real knowledge requires taking risks and keeping the mind open—but most people prefer to be reassured rather than to learn the complex and often unsettling truth about anything.
------正文------
Why human beings never stop exploring unknown things, such as the nature, the cosmos, ourselves, etc? To obtain more knowledge? From my point of view, the very ultimate goal of all kinds of exploration is actually to gain certainty of ourselves. As the speaker claims, I agree with him/her that most people, by means of ordinary persons, prefer to be reassured rather than facing so-called "real knowledge", which might be complex and unsettling. Nevertheless, there are certain groups of people, who never fear of adventure to explore real truth; and only because of their indefatigable of pursuing real truth of the world, our society can continually move foreward.

To begin with, everything human being have done so far, from science to philosophy, from prehistory to modern society, is to attain certainty about the world we living in. One can look no further than research of nature. Why is 24 hours not 48 a day? Why are there four seasons but not five?  Why does the sun always rise from the east but not west? Our ancestors felt uncertainty about all those nature phenomena. What if the sun disappeared? What if winter becomes swelter while summer becomes rigid? As there were no justifiable explanations for these phenomena, ancient human beings turned to seek certainty and assurance from religions and even superstitions. In that era of time, people considered the lightning was because of angry of god, and illness was the punishment from dwarfs which should not be treated. However, as time goes by, scientists finally established a system of theory to interpret nature phenomena. All knowledge accumulated from previous generations provides human being certainty, and as there are still plenty of mysterious enigmas, human beings will never stop seeking interpretations to assure ourselves.

Is everyone willing to precept "real truth", which is most advanced and can be very esoteric and dubious? My answer to this question is "NO". As one of common member of the society, what one is most concerned is not those so called "real knowledge", but the requisite capability to ensure him/her to survive in this world. For instance, consider a normal office lady working as accountancy. What is essential knowledge for her? Most probably basic skills of computer operations, methodical background of accounting, essential communication skills, and so forth. Will she care about how Dolly is cloned? Is she going to concern what the properties of Carbon Nanotube are? Obviously, she will not be interested in learning these kinds of knowledge, but she may be interested to learn a second language as it can assure her to communicate with foreign clients more efficiently. In short, cilivians prefer "useful knowledge", which ensure their working and living capabilites, rather than "true knowledge" that is most advanced but complex.

However, are all people scared about taking risks to learn real truth? Certainly not, otherwise, our society will stop at where it is and never proceed on. Our eminent scientists are one perfect example to this point. For instance, let us consider at the establishment of theory of light. Hundreds years ago, there were disputes regarding the properties of light. Some scholars considers light as pure electrical magnetic wave, while others argued that lights were comprised of particles. The theory was unsettled for almost 20 years. However, our brave scientists never shrink facing difficulties and uncertainty. After years of research, properties of light finally are reconciled as light shows both wave and particle properties. Therefore, we are now enjoying the fruit of laser, X-ray, and other technological products based on application of light. In short, our scientists keep challenging all unknown things, and their brilliant results propel the development of technology, and thus impel the progress of society and civilization.

In sum, I agree with the speaker that the ultimate objective of explanation-seeking to the unknown world is to gain certainty, and most people prefer to be reassured, However, our scientists act dauntlessly to face all challenges and complexities of the world, and thus impel the progress of mankind.

真是紧赶慢赶才写完, 我遵照前辈的指示, 只给自己40mins。

What most human beings really want to attain is not knowledge, but certainty. Gaining real knowledge requires taking risks and keeping the mind open—but most people prefer to be reassured rather than to learn the complex and often unsettling truth about anything.

Why human beings never stop exploring unknown things, such as the nature, the cosmos, ourselves, etc? To obtain more knowledge? From my point of view, the very ultimate goal of all kinds of exploration is actually to gain certainty of ourselves. As the speaker claims, I agree with him/her that most people, by means of ordinary persons(这句没看明白), prefer to be reassured rather than facing so-called "real knowledge", which might be complex and unsettling. Nevertheless, there are certain groups of people, who never fear of adventure to explore real truth; and only because of their indefatigable(ness) of pursuing real truth of the world, our society can continually move foreward(forward).

To begin with, everything(我觉得是不是太绝对了) human being have(has) done so far, from science to philosophy(这句好像不太对,science最开始就是包含在哲学里的阿), from prehistory to modern society, is to attain certainty about the world we living in. One can look no further than research of nature. Why is 24 hours (but)not 48 a day? Why are there four seasons but not five? Why does the sun always(always去掉,这是真理) rise from the east but not west? Our ancestors felt uncertainty(uncertain,这里应该是形容词) about all those nature phenomena. What if the sun disappeared? What if winter becomes swelter while summer becomes rigid? As there were no justifiable explanations for these phenomena, ancient human beings turned to seek certainty and assurance from religions and even superstitions(跟前面的动词seek搭配么?). In that era of time, people considered the lightning was because of angry of god, and illness was the punishment from dwarfs which should not be treated. However, as time goes by, scientists finally established a system of theory to interpret nature phenomena. All knowledge accumulated from previous generations provides human being(us) certainty, and as there are still plenty of mysterious enigmas, human beings will never stop seeking interpretations to assure ourselves.

Is everyone willing to precept "real truth", which is most advanced and can be very esoteric and dubious? My answer to this question is "NO". As one of common member of the society(one common member in the society), what (which)one is most concerned is not those(that,建议这里不要用代词,直接点) so called "real knowledge", but the requisite capability to ensure him/her to survive in this world. For instance, consider a normal office lady working as accountancy. What is essential knowledge for her? Most probably(are) basic skills of computer operations, methodical background of accounting, essential communication skills, and so forth. Will she care about how Dolly is cloned? Is she going to concern what the properties of Carbon Nanotube are? Obviously, she will not be interested in learning these kinds of knowledge, but she may be interested to learn a second language as it can assure her to communicate with foreign clients more efficiently. In short, cilivians(civilians) prefer "useful knowledge", which ensure their working and living capabilites(capabilities), rather than "true knowledge" that is most(more,我觉得这是一个比较的关系) advanced but complex.

However, are all people scared about taking risks to learn real truth? Certainly not, otherwise, our society will stop at where it is(was) and never proceed on. Our eminent scientists are one perfect example to this point. For instance, let us consider at the establishment of theory of light. Hundreds (of) years ago, there were disputes regarding the properties of light. Some scholars considers light as pure electrical magnetic wave, while others argued that lights were comprised of particles. The theory was unsettled for almost 20 years. However, our brave scientists never shrink facing difficulties and uncertainty. After years of research, properties of light finally are(are finally) reconciled as light shows both wave and particle properties. Therefore, we are now enjoying the fruit of laser, X-ray, and other technological products based on application of light. In short, our scientists keep challenging all unknown things, and their brilliant results propel the development of technology, and thus impel(gain) the progress of society and civilization.

In sum, I agree with the speaker that the ultimate objective of explanation-seeking to the unknown world is to gain certainty, and most people prefer to be reassured. However, our scientists act dauntlessly to face all challenges and complexities of the world, and thus impel the progress of mankind.

However, as time goes by, scientists finally established a system of theory to interpret nature phenomena. All knowledge accumulated from previous generations provides human being certainty, and as there are still plenty of mysterious enigmas, human beings will never stop seeking interpretations to assure ourselves. (这段论证得很充分)

Is everyone willing to precept "real truth", which is most advanced and can be very esoteric and dubious? My answer to this question is "NO". Our eminent scientists are one perfect example to this point. For instance, let us consider at the establishment of theory of light. Hundreds (加of)years ago, there were disputes regarding the properties of light. Some scholars considers (consider)light as pure electrical magnetic wave, while others argued (时态有点混乱)that lights were comprised of particles. In sum, I agree with the speaker that the ultimate objective of explanation-seeking to the unknown world is to gain certainty, and most people prefer to be reassured, However, our scientists act dauntlessly to face all challenges and complexities of the world, and thus impel the progress of mankind.
