150"Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete."

------------------------------
Tourism, widely popular all over the world due to the abundance of material and the increasing spare time nowadays, has a extremely long history. Ever since antediluvian times, people were traveling for fresh food and appropriate place to live. For millions of years, humans never stopped traveling, from ancient Asian struggled through White Range Channel to the American continent to Columbus sailed across the Atlantic and found the New Continent, from Mark Polo disseminated the Eastern culture after visiting China to the contemporary people fly wherever they want to have fun. Tourism plays such an important role in humans’ lives that despite the fact that media like television and internet can provide masses of information about every corner of the global, which may seemingly tends to reduce tourism, I strongly disagree that tourism will become obsolete, on the contrary, I suggest it thrive thanks to the media.

The purposes of tourism are not simply, as the speaker assumes, to obtain information of other places and people. Once there was an advertisement which described tourism as (and I paraphrase) that tourism is like the process of life, what matters is not the destination, but the mood when you are enjoying the sceneries. In fact, because of the increasingly fast pace that contemporary people are suffering, they all need to get away from their routines and surroundings and travel for relaxation from time to time, while what television and computer connection can offer is only the visual stimulation, not the spiritual comfort. That is why in every summer, thousands of European and American people rush to the beautiful beaches of Southeast Asian although most of them have seen the sceneries through all kinds of media.

There are also some other factors that will rest on tourism and are not influenced by mass media. Jerusalem, for instance, is the center and origin for three major religions, Islamism,Judaism and Christianity. Thus, uncountable disciples of each would gather here to celebrate their own festivals. These pious disciples will never compromise on having rituals in front of television no matter how real situation it can provide. Furthermore, there are a substantial amount of tourists who travel on business, which is has nothing to do with the information provided by televisions or internet.

Sufficient empirical evidence can prove that the original form of tourism will not become obsolete under the impact of modern technologies, but can, instead, benefit from them. A compelling example is my own country China. Thirty years ago when few foreigners knew about the long history and the abundant relics of China, there was hardly any one from other countries would tour here. However, modern media like television, newspaper and worldwide computer connection provide an outlook of our country, and as a result, now every year China attracts millions of people from all over the world who would like to know more profoundly about this mysterious long-standing nation.

Admittedly, television and worldwide computer connection can provide a fast and clear access of almost any place on the earth, and I sincerely appreciate the convenience they have brought about, whereas, they can never supplant tourism because the real joy brought by tourism is irreplaceable. In fact, the major influence that they place on tourism is auxiliary, not opposing.

17"There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."

------------------------------
Law, body of official rules and regulations, generally made by courts or governments, is used to govern a society and to control the behavior of its members, with the main purpose of maintaining the stability of the society. It is said that everyone is the same in front of laws. However unfortunately, it is unavoidable that there do exist unjust laws that discriminate some people from others. Thus, it seems reasonable, as the argument says above, that every individual should obey just laws as well as disobey and resist unjust ones. Nevertheless, I do not quite agree with it.

In the first place, the boundary between just laws and unjust laws is not so distinct as the argument implies, and it also varies significantly from individuals to individuals. Apparently, different nationalities, races, or even education deceived can cause different interpretations on the fairness of a law. A compelling example is the law of death penalty. Some part of the world, especially Asian countries, allow death penalty in court, while most western countries do not admit it since it does not quite fit with their ingrained conception about human rights. However, if a Canadian who lives in Korea commits a murder which is serious enough to be sentenced to death, he would have to receive the bullet without any disobedience although he thinks the law is unjust.

Further, disobeying laws, whether they are unjust or not, unwisely counteracts the original function of laws, to maintain a peaceful orderly stable society, and may cause opposite effects in terms that it violates the sacredness of laws, which, not like moralities, should be obligatory. Let us imagine, that if every citizen were allowed to freely disobey a law as long as he/she thinks it is unjust, what the society would have been? Nobody paying personal income tax, toxic effluents being emitted into nearby rivers without any purification, residents feeling insecure because violence could take place any time in front of them...... since people could find every reason to demonstrate a law to be unjust. This is not what a modern civilized society is supposed to be like.

Admittedly, laws which are unjust for the majority of a society should be revised or repealed since equity is one of the basic elements in making a law. Before the American Civil War, the black were unfairly fettered by the name of slaveries; it was not until last century did women find their seats in politics. In fact, we are all responsible to fight against unjust laws, but not in the way of disobeying them. For the sake of the entire society, it would be more acceptable and effective to aggregate the complaints, oppress them to the highest echelon of government and ask for reformation.

To sum up, since it is complicated to separate unjust laws from just ones and also disobeying unjust laws could be detrimental to the society on the whole, people should temporarily compromise on them, and wait until they are revised or repealed.
