147 The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.

"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."

The argument is well-presented, but not systematically well-reasoned. The arguer concluded that the sales of Whirlwind video games would likely to increase dramatically in the followed free months. As it stands, this conclusion suffered from several critical flaws.

Most obviously, the arguer fails to prove that the survey used in the argument's reasoning line is statistically credible to give any further conclusion. There is not any additional information to illustrate its credibility. Does the sample in that survey large enough? Does the sample selected reasonably and randomly? Lake of such information, I cannot simply believe the result of the survey.

In addition, even assume the survey is statistically credible; the arguer's further conclusion from this survey is still open to doubt. The arguer notes that Whirlwind has just lunched the extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, and explained that these 10 to 25 people are of the age-group who most likely to play video games. But he gives not evidence to support that. Commonsense tell me that most of the people from 10 to 25 are students or newly offered stuff. It is quite possible that just because the games need the most up-to-date computers, these 10 to 25 people are unable afford such expensive hardware. Therefore, the Whirlwind's advertising campaign may be useless to boost any sales.

Finally, even assume that the advertising campaign do influence the major buyer of the game players, the arguer's further conclusion that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months is also soundless. Perhaps just because the declined sales of games over the past two years, game players are dislike this company. So Whirlwind still may have many times to take advertisement and some other marketing methods to make the sales increase, let alone the arguer’s conduction that will increase “dramatically”

In sum, to make this argument more convincing and warranted, the arguer must provide more credible evidence and statistically sound survey, but he fails to do so.

Most obviously, the arguer fails to prove that the survey usedcited会不会更好? in the argument's reasoning line“推理”是这样表达的吗? is statistically credible to give any further conclusion. So Whirlwind still may havetake many times to take advertisement and some other marketing methods to make the sales increase, let alone let alone 可以这样用吗?我想用no mentionthe arguer’s conduction that will increase “dramatically”

In sum, to make this argument more convincing and warranted, the arguer must provide more credible evidence and statistically sound survey, but he fails to do so.

:)
