Anyone can make things bigger and more complex. What requires real effort and courage is to move in the opposite direction—in other words, to make things as simple as possible.

The unprecedented speed of social changes has dramatically complicated our lives. Although it is not our human beings' intention, we should admit that nowadays a great deal of real effort and courage is needed to simplify our society in technology, politics and even individual lives.

The science and technology is at the threshold of simplification. Due to the competition, the development of science and technology has become more and more complicated and vise versa. In other words, the complication of technology will be better competitive with others. At the same time, as the rapid changes and accumulation of science and thus no one cannot specialize in every aspect, those specialists are making their best to simplify the complex and obscure theory and advancement to the mass. One can look no further than the popularization of personal computer. At the very beginning, the first computer in the world is so large that it occupied nearly a two-floor building and only those experts in electronics or the related professions have the capacity to use it. While in the following 50 years, thousands of experts have contributed their sweats and efforts in this field to minimize and simplify the computer so that every common people can enjoy it. That is what we can touch the opposite side of the world only after a click on the mouse. In short, the most successful scientific and technological achievement is not so complex that only a few people can make use but the general accept.

In politics, the most popular policy and governments are those simple and efficient ones as well. Without control, the number of the offices in a government will increase in that the governors tend to establish a new office relating to a new emerging affair, thus appearing the "big government". We can look at the governments in India and China. If one wants to open a company in these two countries, he/her may need to pass nearly every of the offices to get the attests, undoubtedly spending a long time. Thus, to be an efficient government, the leaders have to take the effort and courage to diminish the size of it, which unavoidably sacrifice some people's interests. And it is the activity that every government in the whole world are endeavoring to control the scale and the number of the officials, utilizing maximally the taxes the taxpayers have paid.

Our individual's lives are also on the same route as the technology and the politics. In the information explosion, our brains are stuffing loads of information every day, from the newspapers to the television, from the intercommunication with others to the internet. At the same time, everyone is asked to accomplish more and more tasks and master increasing skills. In this case, an individual has to learn the effort master something valuable for him/her while drop the useless things neatly; one also need to hold the courage to say "no" to the things one does not want. No one has the ability to join in a concert and a surprising party simultaneously.

In sum, the increasingly rapid pace of our society cherish the time as gold. Everyone should acquire the effort to simplify the things briefly and the courage to say 'yes' or 'no' to the things according with one's tastes.

关于第三点，我不太确信。我是被老板给我改论文的思路训练下来的，每句话都希望有根据。但是gre作文是不是需要这样，我不太清楚。Imjason你说呢？加油!
