Efforts made by scholars and researchers of both scientific and humanitarian fields are closely linked with the evolvement of history and even have an impact on thousands of common people.

Scientific discoveries have doubtlessly shaped our way of life today. Without penicillin, thousands of lives would always be under threat of deadly disease of phthisis; without invention of electric lamp, our life at night is hardly to imagine, without airplanes, flying would remain a dream of human beings and traveling across Atlantic Ocean would be exhausting. Also for humanitarian and social science, the historian studies illuminate the past lost in the mist, literature reflects the basic human nature and invites a clearer understanding of life, and sociology makes sense of social organization and human behavior. Thus, the researches conducted by scholars are indivisible parts of human society and influence the life of all, either directly or indirectly. It is not only impossible but also infeasible to isolate research from the larger society.

First, since the scientific advancements impose an increasingly significant influence on our life, scholars must pay more attention to the long-term social consequences of their research, especially the negative side they may incur. Take Nobel for example, intending to ease the heavy workload of miners, he invented the explosive TNT. However, aside from being utilized in mining, the TNT was greatly applied in military realm and multiplied the casualties on battlegrounds.

Second, as science develops, fund needed to support modern scientific research has been booming, which calls for financial support from multiple sources. If the research is conducted regardless of social demands and times trend, short of funding will severely undermine scientific research.

Admittedly, profit-oriented researches will prove to be short-sighted and lack true scientific values, and individual interests of researchers should be respected, however, scholars and researchers as elites are expected to assume social responsibility and take demands of the mass as their first priority in conducting researchers.
