------题目------
Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively.
------正文------
I fundamentally agree [with the speaker删掉好吗?] that students are supposed to bring skepticism to certain extent towards what [whatever] they study because only through this way students can [前面用only,后面要导奘] better understand the theory, principles and assumptions by their own verification after skepticism. Furthermore, they might be inspired to think for themselves and make possible better discoveries and progress in the specific field of study. However, I am strongly against undue skepticism and mistrust on "whatever" students are studying.
To begin with, a certain extent of skeptic attitude towards things taught to students usually encourages them to think carefully on the established theory, principles and laws. When a student develops such skepticism [,]it is very often [invariably] that he or she will try every efforts to closely examine and scrutinize on those theories or principles. For instance, he or she might conduct experiment to prove or disprove the theory; he or she might also go to library in order to lend vast amount of reference books and information [which agree or disagree with a principle感觉多余了,]. After all [,]the experiments and reference books and other evidence showing the support for these theories and laws the student has learned a precious lesson and he or she is better equipped with such knowledge than those who have passively accepted, because the learning process is involved with his own experience of searching and extracting the truth.[可以列举Descartes的I think, therefore I am.这个也许不合适,但是最好找一个比较充分的证据]
On the second place, bringing certain skepticism might inspire them to ask questions and thus make [possible] some discoveries in the future. Things taught to students may not always be right and beliefs hold by our ancestors or parents might not be suitable to our contemporary people. True knowledge must be verified and tested with a long period of time and under the frame of large scope of perspectives[这句不错,学习]. Students who had paid attention to this point and brought skepticism are more likely to make important discoveries than their peers who had not. Historical examples on science will provide ample evidence to illustrate this. Without the skepticism towards the notion of earth-centered universe, Copernicus would never expect to advocate his great discovery on the real center of the universe--the sun. Moreover, thanks to the skepticism towards Aristotle's theory, Galileo conducted famous experiments in the Leaning Tower of Pizza and finally discovered and proved the Law of Free Fall[学习].
However, undue skepticism on nearly everything is more harmful than beneficial in the process of a student's growing up and searching for true knowledge. What we are encouraging and praising is certain skepticism based on moderate extent of questioning and verifying rather than try every method or [taking] every advantage to disagree or disprove everything a student is taught. For example, questioning on something which can be gained by common sense, say the notion of "there is only one straight line between two points", and trying to prove its correctness by strict reasoning will only amount to futile attempts; not accepting the basic rules of dynamics and Newton physics might set obstacles in the way of further learning and cannot help a student shape a complete and correct notion about universe.
To sum up, to bring a certain skepticism will inspire students study more effectively and efficiently, and it may also inspire them make possible important discoveries in the future. But we should not take this assertion too far in the way of their study because negative effects brought about by undue skepticism will weigh over [outweigh] the positive ones that moderate skepticism will produce to students' growing process and the shaping of their knowledge system.
