I fundamentally agree with the speaker's assertion that practicality is now great idol, for the reason that taking a practical attitude toward problems and challenges encountering in the life is necessary to accomplish the success for people. Practicality contributes the survival and substantial development for individuals, organizations and society. In the realm of academic, students must make every effort to learn practical knowledge and skills, such some related to computers, which can help them better contribute to the society in future. In the realm of art, architecture in today' world have approach more importance to functionality, safety and cost. The content of best-selling books, films and music have to cater to the over-changing appetite of customers. In the realm of business, maximization of profitability serves as one important factor to determine the survival of any companies or corporations. In the realm of politics, political candidates must try their best to acquire more supports from their constituency in order to be elected or reelected. As what is mentioned above, practicality has play a paramount role in people's working and living.

However, overemphasis on practicality, while overlooking the distinct value of idealism, can bring about negative, even dangerous influences to during the process of fulfilling the ultimate success in any endeavor. First in academic fields, students' undue practicality results in one phenomenon that students make every effort to acquire high average scores, and pay much attention to teachers’ evaluation. In this case, students only focus on so-called right answers instilled by teachers and passively accept all established thoughts and principles without critical thinking. Students' cannot comprehensively understand the hidden meanings of knowledge, at the same time student’s distinct interests and potential talents cannot be fully developed.

Secondly, in the business fields, aside from several immediate goals such as bottom line, deadlines of production, sales quotas and the like, effective executives should concern whether the manufacturing process pose potential threat on environment and customers, whether corporations make some contributions to the stability and prosperity of economic orders, whether companies have a friendly relationship with the rest of the world. Were this not the case, corporations and companies would miss in the sea of commerce without clear direction, and be lagged behind by their competent in the end. A case in point is the bankruptcy of Enron Energy Company. Its executive abdicated his responsibility to customers, employees and society, use misleading documents to overstate income by thousands and hundreds dollar, just aiming at short-term economic interests of his own. Similarly, the Arthur Andersen certified these documents when they actually know the truth. The bankruptcy of Enron and the economic scandals concerning Arthur Andersen inform corporate executives should not merely aim at certain practically immediate goals, regardless of the long-term idealism of corporations.

Thirdly, when it comes to political realm, undue practicality of political leaders inevitably and inexorably exert harmful impact on the whole society. If political leaders only concentrate on whether to be elected and reelected, while overlooking their responsibilities toward to constituency and country, the government might be reduced to the machine and tool of acquiring personal interests of political leaders. Instead, any effective politician should aim at realizing the ultimate idealism of human, involving overall living standard of people, the ways of solving pressing social problems and the peaceful international and domestic environment
